I have a 09 4x4 Tacoma with 55000 miles and it has a oil leak Coming from a black box above the Rear Axle. I thought it was the Fuel pump and brought it to the dealer for the repair. They told me it is not the fuel pump and they also dont know where the leak is coming from. The only part above the axle is this black box with some lines coming from it. I clean the oil off it and it comes back in a day or so. Can anyone tell me if they know what may be leaking. I also believe the fluid coming out feels like Gear fluid. Any help would be great.

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
Charcoal canister shouldn't have any LIQUID in it period..

Is it right on rear axle or up in crossmember?
Like is it part of rear axle? Maybe some form of e-locker actuator or something? I don't know..I don't know shit about 2nd gens and don't care too.

Hey. Could that be where the breather hose comes out?

Only thing I can imagine is gear lube leaking from the pinion seal and getting sling up there by the u-joint flange.

If it's the pinion seal it's covered under the powertrain warranty so take it in to the dealer and let them figure it out.

I can't tell where it's leaking from the pics but is that where the brake lines come in, then drop down to the axle? I'll look later to see what's on the truck that could possibly be leaking up there.
