TRD shouldnt matter whatsoever, the wiring harnesses are all the same for prerunners, TRD off road, TRD sport, and XRunners

I had the wiring diagram for the 09 and the ambient temperature sensor behind the grill works through the a/c amplifier. On my truck the sensor does not feed out of the amplifier to the wiring harness to the overhead console. I have a 2009 overhead console with a 2009 temp/compass cluster and it does not work. Only dashes where the temp should be. Its not the harness but the a/c amplifier. I spoke to a friend at Toyota parts dept and there are two different a/c amplifiers for a 2009 Tacoma. I don't know how he got his to work, but mine will not.

Does the wiring harness in your roof have five wires? According to the 09 wiring diagram, the temperature signal comes in on the yellow wire (pin 5). Do you have a yellow wire in pin 5?

Just an update on my temperature/compass install in my 2009 SR5 DC:

I was just about to spend a Saturday afternoon installing a new temperature probe and running the wires up to the 2006 temperature/compass console that I have, when I found a 2009 temperature/compass console on Ebay for $185 shipped. I had seen others selling for over $400 which was out of my price range, but this one was more reasonable. So I bought the 2009 console, plugged it in, and now I have a working temperature and compass readout.

    Still brand new.
So was it a simple swap with no amp conversion?

I have a 09 SR5 and recently thinking of doing the same thing. I know there was some concerns that there were two different set ups for Non-TRD and TRD.

Lucky bastard. I went to the dealer awhile back and was quoted just a shade over a grand to buy one from them.

After that, I realized $400 wasn't a bad price. Good find, I'll have to keep checking ebay with a little more consistency.

Yes, for me (2009 SR5 4x4 DC LB) it was a simple swap of overhead consoles. The person who posted that he had trouble drives a 4cyl Tacoma, I would guess that is the reason a simple swap did not work.

Check the connector in your headliner (it's plugged in to the dummy plug on your non-temperature overhead console) -- as long as it has five wires I think you should have no problem swapping in a new console.

I did the same, put an 09 overhead console in my non TRD and it works fine. Purchased from another member on here for $150 shipped. Good deal.

Same problem..I did order from http://www.*********************/ a 8879022131-GRN270 (Toyota Tacoma Ambient Temperature Sensor, 4.0L (05- ) US$ 12.23 . After desambling under roof connector and well isolate yellow wire (pin #5). I did install a new wire in Pin #5 and #6 (just under pin #1). Both wired wer connected to the temp. sensor placed near the original , in the front of the truck. And work fine.

So from this we can assume that the 4 cyl SR5 AC I have would contain a different AC amplifier and therfore the console swap with another 09 would not work?

I was wandering if someone has been successful with the temp gauge install on a 4 cyl.

I have a 09 4cyl AC Prerunner, all prewired for a sensor up front and the plug up top. Now I am wondering if it will work if I by the parts?

Hey this was very useful information, I recently purchased a 2005 toyota tacoma, and the outside air console didnt work, went to toyota 7 times to figure out the unit was faulty ordered the wrong part one time, finally got the part in installed it, and i have a compass but the temperature just shows me 3 bars all the time, went back to toyota they told me it was my junction block, being fried, which is not covered on my warrenty, I never changed the junction block because i refuse to believe that it is even fried, now you come out here with pretty much the same issue, the 3 bars, and then the two different part numbers, tomorrow i am going to check out my part numbers with the ones you have listed thanks for the info!

I know this is an old thread, but I can't help but wonder if the temp probe on an 07 could be wired up to a Gentex mirror. Are the 07 temp probes wired through the A/C, or do they go straight to the wiring harness in the roof?
