In the 2007 the wires from the temperature probe go into pins 1 and 3 of connector 1C, which is just to the right of the fuses that you will find behind that small compartment to the left of the steering wheel. The roof wire plugs into connector 1E, which is just to the right of that same fuse panel. I believe it is the grey and yellow wires in the 2007 roof harness wiring that are connected to the temperature probe wires, but I don't have the wiring diagram available anymore to confirm.

Everything changed starting in the 2009 model year, when the temperature probe was connected into the A/C system.

Sweet! So I should be able to use the factory probe without having to run another. That is exactly what I was hoping. I'm in the process of de-ambering my truck, and the overhead display is the final thing to eliminate.

Do you know if it will harm the mirror if I wire the probe backwards at first? I am not sure which way to connect the two wires, and may get it wrong before getting it right.

I got the mirror installed today. The grey and yellow wires are the probe wires just as I was told. I am now amber-free!

    Bradforj,
I know it has been a while but I thought I would ask anyway. I have 2005 Taco base model 4 cyl, can I install the Gentex mirror too? If so, what Gentex mirror model did you install? I would appreciate more information about what you went through. Prices have come down quite a lot and there are many used Gentex mirrors from GM trucks available. It would be a great enhancements to my 2005 (still in mint condition).

Forgive me for reviving a dead thread but I stumbled on this thread and found it relevant.

I've got a '15 tacoma which as I've now found has no factory option for an overhead compass/ temperature meter, I did the stupid thing of not reading this thread and bought an overhead meter out of a 2011 tacoma thinking at the very worst I would have to run a new line for the temperature probe.

I spent an evening probing and wire splicing and got the meter powered up with compass working, unfortunately though the connector in the headliner that I thought was my ticket into this only has 3 wires with no temperature wire because as I've now found this model year only has the rear view mirror/compass option instead of overhead meter. I don't give up easily so I kept digging and with the power of alldata I traced the wire that should be feeding the meter back to the A/C Amplifier on connector A14 pin 27.

Now the interesting part is that from looking at just wiring diagrams the A/C Amplifiers for an '11 and '15 looks exactly the same MINUS pin 27

Removing the connector on my '15 I see the pin on the amplifier but there's nothing populating pin 27 on the connector. The obvious solution was to run a wire in the empty socket to the meter and it worked! I get a temperature reading on the meter but unfortunately it's completely off reading 12 F when it was probably 60+F. I put a meter from ground to pin 27 and the A/C Amplifier is sending a voltage fluctuating from probably 5mv-15mv making me think it's a pwm signal which would make sense for the digital display.

Now what's got me curious is the difference between the A/C Amplifiers what do you guys think? I'd bet I could get one from an '11 for cheap from a junk yard and swap it in the connectors alldata is showing look exactly the same. I don't know the likelihood that would get me a working temperature display though.

    Thoughts?
