    Hello,

I have been haggling the hell out of this TRD off road 4x4 double cab automatic from a dealer (dealer A). I orginally thought the MSRP was $37,500 and I was using competing offer from another dealer (Dealer B) to get the Dealer to bring the price of the truck to $32,000. Below is the full break down and OTD cost.

Truck: 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road 4x4 double cab automatic
    Options: tow package
    sale price: $32,000
    Dealer fee: $900
    Tax: $1,500
    License and tags: $600
    OTD: $35,000.

BUT I just realized that the actual MSRP is not $37,500 but is actually $35,555. Dealer A put an artifically inflated MSRP on their website.

I was feeling good about paying $35,000 OTD for the truck but now I don't think I am actually getting a good deal on the truck.

I am thinking about offering to pay $33,000 OTD. What should I do?

Tell them you found out what the real MSRP was and want to renegotiate your deal, worst they'll say is no....then shop somewhere else? Dealers don't like to let people walk.

Ok, thanks. Yeah, I think I need to step back and do more research. Dealers are so tricky these days.

"Dealer fee: $900" Lolwut. I would laugh in the face of any dealer who tried to pull that, and immediately take another $900 off whatever competing discounts I had. Also holy crap $600 for license and tags? I think I paid $350, and that was on the higher end (although fairly common) where I am.

This. Just figure out the percentage off you originally thought you were getting and then convert it down from the actual MSRP.

Same as me man... MSRP was 37,162 now I'm seeing listed as 35,104 as the 'easy price' on their site.. Out the door at 35k.

I went to buy today and bailed before getting to the lot.

Seems like a good price in my opinion.

Have them show you a detailed breakdown of the invoice sheet. Believe whatever you want but all dealerships charge some sort of MSRP holdback, regardless of what they call it. Of course they’re going to make money off of you and an honest dealership should be willing to show you, in no uncertain terms, exactly how much they’re making off of the deal.

You can offer whatever you want. At some point, the dealership will say no and that’s when you’ve found the best price.

Remember, it isn’t always about what everyone else is paying but about the actual dollar amount that you can spend to acquire the truck in your area.

Sales targets, dealer inventory, and demand for that vehicle in your area will generally be the biggest factors in how low they’ll go.

Hi Thanks for your reply. I think the demand for the truck that I am interested in is low. The truck is red color and the dealer even said that he always has a hard time selling red colored trucks (its my fav color tho). I feel like I can get an excellent bargain on the truck is I play my hand right.

    Like, so many.
Seems like a good deal to me. That’s a little less than I paid for mine.
