Is there anybody out there who has experience making circuit boards, wiring, etc and would be able to craft a occupancy sensor bypass system so that I can install a pair of Corbeau Baja xrs racing seats without losing the airbag system? I would be more than willing to compensate for the time and development costs. If anybody either does this type of work for a living or knows somebody does please either post back on here or PM me. Hope this message finds everyone about to have an awesome weekend!

I dont think most people would be willing to do this, because if you were to get into an accident and be severely injured or killed because some one tampered with the airbag system and it failed to deploy they may be at fault.

But if i had to take a quick guess, i would say you may be able to swap the sensor grid from the factory seat over into the corbeau seat.

Can't do a straight swap unfortunately because my Corbeau seats have seat heaters installed already.
I thought about that but the Corbeau website states that factory occupancy sensor systems will not function properly through a seat heater apparently so that's off the table. I've heard that it's possible to use diodes on each individual wire to simulate the proper amounts of resistance on each, so that's a possibility but a fairly complex one, just wondering if there might be some other solution I haven't thought of out there.

Side note: it's really fucked that liability has become what it has. I am more than willing to accept liability for the mods I am doing, just want to make it so that my airbags will still deploy if my truck were ever to be in an accident or something.

If the tacoma uses the same system as all Lexus vehicles, then the occupancy detection is only for the front passenger seat. Your airbags will still go off because of the accelerometers and g force sensors in the airbag ecu buried in the dash. But i believe the occupancy detection determines if the passenger knee airbag and passenger seat side airbag deploy or not. Id have to hook a techstream up to my truck and look around in the SRS system.

This is good news, still want to fix it to the point where all the airbags work as intended though. For clarification, do you mean in case of an accident those airbags should go off and wouldn't or the opposite? Assuming that someone is sitting in the passenger seat at the time.
Also forgot to mention that Corbeau xrs seats come as a pair so I'm swapping both fronts at once so either way still need to figure a work around

If you dont have the occupancy detection working then should someone sit in the front passenger seat and you were to get into an accident the knee airbag and seat side airbag would not go off.

occupancy detection is solely for detecting if someone is in the front passenger seat as the name suggests lol and lets the system respond accordingly. This is an awful idea but, you could slide the grid under the passenger seat with some weight on it to trick the system into thinking you had a passenger in the truck, assuming all connectors and harness are in tact. i assume no responsibilty if you attempt that.

Why couldn't you swap the oem board to the new seats and then wire the heated seats portion separately?

because the detection grid cant read through corbeaus heat seater grid, as OP stated.

Heated seat portion preinstalled into seat material. For some reason the system wont function properly if I put it in underneath, something to do with how it's now an electromagnetically triggered system rather than based solely on weight which is why if you leave a cellphone in the passenger seat sometimes the check seat belt light pops up

I admittedly don't know much on the subject, but I was suggesting two systems running independently of each other.

They do run seperately, the problem is the detection grid cant read or essentially "see" through corbeaus heat seater grid.

There are 4 weight load sensors at each corner, you could try to install them into the new seat rail then calibrate them to the new seat. Mounting the small ECU would be easy.

Toyota only uses the electrical current on the FR-S currently, for now they are using sensors.

Typically I mount aftermarket seats onto OEM rails, I never like switching rails out.

Ah so it is different then Lexus vehicles, glad you were able to let me know. calibrating the sensors may be the tricky part.

OP i just checked TIS and the occupancy detection system will restrict the deployment of the front passenger airbag side airbag and seatbelt tensioner

The occupancy sensor is sending the weight information directly to the government so they can keep tabs on overweight people. That in turn will determine how much your insurance can charge you. Eventually it will be used to figure out how much additional highway tax you should pay because of being over weight and cause more wear and tear on the roads. There are no discounts for non-overweight people. Can I borrow that box of tin foil?
