Sorry here's the text. I just purchased the oil filter # 90915-YZZG2. I saw the great work on the filters from 2011. But the parts guy sold me this short one not the 90915_YSSD3. He wasn't very knowledgeable... Am I out of luck on the taller filter? does the one I purchased have a anti drainback valve? Parts guy didn't know... I would like to change my oil today. Thx!

    Thx for the quick reply.
So is the 90915-YZZG2 wrong? Also I just crawled under it for the first time and there ain't much room for the filter cap wrench to maybe go on the longer filter?

Wow what a pain. none of my cap filter wrenches worked. finally was just able to get the old school swivel wrench to barley catch... where can I purchase a cap wrench that works?

Id get a strap wrench. Those cap wrenches just slip off when I use them and make it more difficult.

Attached is a one-page PDF I made years ago, and still use today for oil changes. Get yourself a filter removal tool like the one I show.

I do not know for sure, but it seems like a lot of these Toyota filters can be cross-applied. I'm sure you are fine using the G2. I would switch to a D1 or D3 next time though

they call for the yzzg2 filter, but its the same as a yzzd3, just the d3 is a little taller. i use it on my tacoma so i can then run 6 quarts even in it

D1 through 3 all work fine and are just diffrent in length. YZZG is actually the newer version of the YZZD series, but are essentially the same compatibility wise. Honestly not to sure what make them diffrent.

If you go to the dealer and ask for a oil filter they are likely to give you the G filter as opposed to a D filter.

what's the difference (other than part number) between the G and D series?

EDIT: The only info I can find states that the G-series is USA made with no pre-lubed gasket. The D series are made in Thailand and have the typical vaseline-like material slathered onto the gasket.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/filters-from-dealership.138420/

I would not be one bit surprised if we start seeing more G series filters due to possible tariffs. Just speculation!

Someone needs to cut a G series in half and compare to the D series filter media (which is superior to anything at local auto parts stores).

So lemme get this straight. 90915-YZZD1 is the Toyota PN for the filter on my 3RZ 2.7L. However, I can use 90915-YZZG2 in place of it, correct? I always assumed YZZD3 was the filter for my truck, but I checked on Olathe Toyota parts and their claiming its YZZD1. I wanna get the 10 pack on eBay, but I dont wanna order the wrong ones...

How longer is the D3 filter vs the other two? I can't imagine that one oiler would really be that much better if you are changing your oil on a schedule.

Ill probbaly get the D1's since they'll work on my 1992 22RE as well.
Edit: Just confirmed on YotaTech, the D3 will work on a 22RE too. And I can put them on my dads 1GR-FE V6 so Ill get the 10 pack of the 90915-YZZD3 filters.

more or less. How extra square inches of media that is, I'm not sure. Maybe 40 square inches.
