I have a 21 OR and just put some bilstein 5100s on the truck paired with some 285/70/17 wildpeak MTs.
The collar is set on the 4th ring and have a 1 inch block in the rear. They said you could use the stock springs on the 5100s but I am having a problem with it being too bouncy! Every little bump the front end starts to bounce. There is obviously too much preload in the springs.
The ship I got the work done was not much help when I asked what I should do to fix it and all they said was hopefully they settle.
Well they haven’t settled and I don’t even enjoy driving the truck right now and don’t have a whole lot of cash to be throwing it this again unfortunately.

Anyone have any suggestions on springs I could use? Maybe go down to the 3rd collar ring? Or should I order new suspension with spring and try to sell these. They only have 1000km on them currently.

    May be the tires...
Tires went on the same time as the shocks? Should have about 32 psi in those...
Looks like you might have C-rated; but still, at 61 pounds, that's a 50% increase in weight over stock.

I have a set of used Bilstein 600lb springs that came off my 8112s. I upgraded to 650lb springs. These are the same springs that Bilstein puts on their 6112s. I am wondering if you could put those on your 5100s, lower the preset, eliminate the stiffness and bounce, and still get the lift you are looking for?

Maybe someone else could chime in?

IIRC the 8112's have tapered flat coil ends whereas the 5100's need the factory round overlap coil end springs.

I would recommend to OP to get some OME 88X springs:

Before I jumped up to mid travel adjustable coilovers I had 5100's with 887's on the 2nd notch (not recommended always use the lowest notch when running aftermarket springs with 5100's) and it rode okay. Had 285/70/17 at 33psi with a lot of weight up front, full steel skids and ARB bumper.

Did they install the collar correctly? I’ve seen people install them upside down and it will ride like absolute trash.

Bouncy like under dampened or bouncy like too stiff?

The front looks like it's 2"+ higher than the rear in that picture.

Sounds like the shop install may be to blame.

5100s have very little damping force, less than stock shocks, its really a shame they get so much business, they are not good.
I have used 5100s on several vehicles and 100% bad experience every time

Been using 5100s on my two 2018 DCLB and DCSB, both set up identical, same wheels and tires, but the DCSB is on the 5th perch and the DCLB is on the 4th. Both ride identical and not bouncy, life time warranty from Bilstein when used with the OEM coilss. The OME coils sag over time. My guess they installed them wrong as 5100s are a great shock, used by many with great results.

Yeah...I think @Jpalafox is on to something with the upside-down spring perch.

Yes the tires went on at the same time as springs and have been running them at 32 psi.
Is the bottom collar upside down? I just looked at the instructions and it looks wrong now that you guys mention it..

I dunno, I'd find a different shop to fix it for me. I wouldn't want to go back to the same one.

I can now confirm what I said in my previous post above. Amazing incompetence shown by this installer.

Give us a heads up on the name of the shop so nobody else has to deal with this complete incompetence.
