Took my truck into a muffler shop for an exhaust re route for skid plates. Just got under to do the plates and saw this. Didn’t notice it before so I’m not sure if muffler guy disconnected it and forgot to connect. I’m assuming it’s supposed to be connected. Any help would be appreciated

    Yes.

Pretty sure its also supposed to be one piece but Im not 100% sure on that. Looks like the hose might be dry-rotted to the point where it wont stay connected

Looks like a vacuum hose for the Xfer case. Although, I'm not 100% sure.

I assume it plugs into the little rubber grommet with all the cracks. I would visit Toyota to get a replacement grommet. Pull the old one out, install new grommet, stick the hose into the grommet.

    Simple. Done.

From searching other threads looks like it may be the breather for the transfer case

    hoping this simple fix works
