I have a 91 4Runner with a 2002 3.4l Tacoma engine swap and last week I was on my way home from work and it threw a CEL and had a huge loss of power and a popping noise coming from under the passenger side engine bay. I went to start it the day after it and started twice but barely ran now it won’t turn over anyone know what’s going on? My diagnostic port isn’t working so I can see what code it’s throwing. I’d appreciate any help.

Time to figure out why you can not pull codes.

Other wise we are all guessing.

You could pull the engine and tare it down.

Did the engine start knocking did you spin a bearing?

It cranks with no strange noises ?

I’m currently trying to figure out why I can’t pull codes and was just posting this incase anyone had any ideas where to start. No knocking or weird sounds and still had power at low rpms just when I went to accelerate it bogged down then threw on the CEL. And yes it cranks with no strange noises at all.

I would look at your ECM ground it might have worked loose causing all sorts of problems.

Losing any of the sensor signals could cause fuel to be shut off . To what the ECM thinks is a non running engine.

Noises can be real tricky . Did a O2 sensor vibrate loose hence the popping noise . Leaking cross over pipe/ Your exhaust is on the left side ??

Finding why the OBD II system is down is your first step unless something is very easy to spot.

    Good luck!
