Can two big dogs fit in the back seat of the Tacoma whether the seats are folded down or not? I have two German Shepherds, one is 65 lbs and one is 70 lbs.

My dilemma is I am moving to a new state and if I get a shell and I need to remove it for whatever reason I don't have anyone that can help me out. Looking for some advice. Maybe I should look at a different vehicle/truck?

For those of you who cross shopped the Tacoma with other competitors, was the Colorado backseat any better?

I havent travelled anywhere or even driven with my 3 dogs (two 60lb dogs and 1 50lb dog), but they have fit back there with the seats up when I was testing their seatbelt harnesses. It appeared cramped but 2 of them like laying down and curling up on car rides so that helps. That may give you an idea about sizing.

My 50lb puppy pit can still fit on the passenger seat, im sure two shepards will have room.

My 70# lab/gsp mix fits with plenty of room in the back with the seats folded flat. The seat bottoms flip up and the backs fold down flat. I put his bed on there and he seemed content to chill while we drove across town. I haven't done any long trips yet. I am considering getting a hammock type thing for the back seat that would contain him a little better than just folding the seats down.

I test drove a Colorado before buying my tacoma and felt that the cab had a little more space, but not significantly more. I much preferred the interior layout of the Tacoma and the Colorado was missing the magic sauce.

I transported 2 Labs, one 65# and one 85#, in the backseat of a 2nd Gen Tacoma DC. It was an extremely cold day, starting out at -19F. Once it warmed up (15F), the dogs went back into their crates. Plenty of room for 2 large dogs back there. As I've stated elsewhere on this forum, my preference is for my dog or dogs to ride in dog crates in the bed of the truck. From late spring to early fall, I remove the canopy from my truck and the dog(s) ride back there in the elements. Winter time, I have a low cost aluminum canopy on the truck that encloses the bed. And the dog(s) still ride back there.

I don't know how you guys do it with big dogs in the back. My little ham gets shit hairy and dirty and has scratched the door already with his paws. He's 35lbs.

I'm not talking about fitting. I'm sure they can fit. I'm talking about damage and dirt.

I've had two dogs in the back seat, one 90 lb and one 65 lb. They fit and ride just fine. They just have to like each other because its a tad cozy. I have a dealiewhacker that is like a hammock that fits over headrests and covers the seat. They both just curled up on their side and rode for four hours.

I have a 70lb GSD mix and she has a good couple inches of headroom sitting tall in the rear with the seats normal. The hammock covers are nice, keeps some of the hair contained and them from getting into the front too easy. I also regularly have a child carseat behind the front passenger side and she still seems plenty comfortable with only the center and driver side area. No extended trip experience though, for what its worth.

I have a canvas hammock for my entire back seat (double cab), and two protective panels over the doors. My Labrador retriever LOVES it back there, and is pretty secure as well. She gets a nylabone and gnaws away on trips, and has never hurt the canvas. I had the same hammock previously in a Subaru Outback, and carried a 75-pound Lab and a 60-pound Lab all the time. For cleaning, four clips and it comes out. Usually just shaking it out is enough, but it can go in the washing machine, too.

Just get a good dog seat cover and you're good to go. It also gives them a bit more room as it provides a hammock support in the leg area.

My 95 lbs guy sheds and slobers like a beast. But he sure is happy and comfortable in the backseat.

Have traveled 1000+ miles with a 50 lb Australian Shepherd and 70 lb black Lab with plenty of room. Both dogs know better than to put there paws on the center console and even to jump in using the rock sliders and not scratch the bottom door paint. Only bad are nose prints all over the windows but that isnt bad to clean. I do drive with a mat to keep as much fur out of the seats as possible.

We've traveled a good bit with three dogs in the folded down backseat of my Double cab. We put a dog bed then blanket on top and no issues so far, as long as your dogs don't mind being close to each other. We have a Great Dane/mastiff mix (120 lbs), catahoula mix (55 lbs), and a beagle mix (25 lbs). It's pretty comical to see the dogs pile out at rest stops lol

I have two German Shorthairs. My male is 90#, my female 65#. I take them hunting all the time. When I had the Tacoma I had them ride in the back 700 miles to Westby MT. It was very crowded back there for them. Two large crates will fit in the bed, but not side by side (I have 1 XL crate, one large crate). Also my hunting and camping gear + dog crates didn't fit in the bed.

Colorado has same issues (and I did a side by side comparison of the Colorado vs my old Tacoma with measurements of the rear).

Folding up the seats in either the Tacoma or Colorado may help if you have dog beds- but the under seat storage area will present a minor issue. Some guys leave the seats down and build a padded deck that basically makes the entire rear a 'dog deck' which expands their room greatly.

I have a mid rise topper on my Chevy Silverado 6.5ft bed. I can remove it with 4 people, or two people and help from an engine hoist in the shop.
