    Wow, super old thread.

Yeah, I read the whole thing and kept thinking no one has mentioned a regear?

Of course the actual correct answer is regear plus supercharger and all the things that go along with that.

The correct answer is just buy a v8 Tundra......way cheaper and more reliable than what any of you all have suggested........

Sure, but you get the size penalty.

The gen1 tundras aren't any bigger than TRD's.....

only thing I dont like is the belt......
    ......that may necessitate the 5.7.....

5vz is unnecessary complicated for such a little gain over the 3rz...
    they could of done better....

they should of done a straight 6 ......like ram did back in day....
that would of given a ton of upgrade options......even diesel....
the brandnew mazda cx90 went this way....

but you cant stick a straight 6 in a camry can you.......
so basically ....still a car company....

the straight 6 in my '74 mercuy capri was about as powerful as your 5vz truck engine....

Right, significantly bigger than a 1st gen Tacoma.

Interesting take on the 5VZ FE vs the other engines.

O'Silver, i see that kind of response on here all the time: "buy a [insert different truck name here]". I get it - some people just don't get truck love, and that's okay. I accept my self-indulged affliction despite its seemingly idiotic pain and financial setbacks.

Otis24, that's the plan: supercharge it, then see if the regear is even necessary. The only thing that's teasing me is what if a "simple" regear just happened to perfectly suit my towing situation without the power boost? I'm so sure it wouldn't, so SC it is, but still...

So, the regear is pretty simple. You either do it yourself or have a shop do it and you're done. And if you want, you can have front and rear lockers while you're at it.

The supercharger on the other hand will be unlikely to be as simple.

How far down the supercharger rabbit hole are you? (there really isn't a regear rabbit hole. However, the supercharger rabbit hole can get very very deep)

OK you baited me, the 1UZFE V8 is a great swap option, it is an all aluminum 4 Ltr V8 that weighs less than the 3.4 V6 with 60 more horsepower, also it only weighs 30 lbs more than the 3RZ 2.7. They are plenty full i know where there are 3 right now in pick and pulls, there are many people doing this swap especially the 4runner community, there are plenty of resources out there for engine mounts, manual trans adapters and wiring setups, northwest toys out of Oregon has everything you need. My avatar shows a 1993 SC400 1uzfe with auto mounted in my 99 prerunner single cab, i love it, best mod i have ever done, A/C blows cold, cruise control works, all gages work. The cost is probably close to doing the supercharger option, oh and if you want even more power there are supercharger kits for the 1uzfe.
Do some digging on the webs, 1uzfe swap, have fun
    R/

I could see for a hobby truck these lower blocks are awesome....

I would much rather have one of these supercharged over anything offered turbo'ed today....

However its not the 5vz I'd do.....I would supercharge the 3rz with the balance shafts deleted......

Toyota is not a truck company....historically....
