As everyone knows I am deployed right now, Well I got married in April, knowing I was getting deployed, my wife had her own house in Texas, at the time and has since Sold it, All her things are in Texas she is living with my folks till i get back. Yes Drama..

I am stationed in North Carolina, and when i get back we are going to need to move her things to NC.

Any recommendations on how to go about doing this.

Moving Company.. (Anyone know if its cheeper since its all already packed)

UHaul it ourselves.. ( Only problem is I only have 4 days untouchable leave in the first two weeks I get home. And If Im not out of the Tax Free Zone before Jan 1, the entire month is Tax free, "Its good but also bad" Good because yea no taxes in January, Bad because I have 15 days of Tax free leave and if i take leave to go to Texas in January its pretty much throwing the tax free part out of the leave since its alread tax free so i would have to wait till Feb. If I am out of the Tax Free zone before Jan 1 I can take leave not really an issue.) So Uhaul will really only work is im out of Tax Free zone before Jan 1 or If we wait till Feb.. Feb = a month without or Washer Dryer.. and other shit she has i dont.

Also If anyone else has some advice on How to make this easy and smooth please PLEASE let me know.

Swing by TMO and talk to them and see what options they offer you. I believe since you were already stationed when you were married they will move her for you or you can opt to do the dity move in which case you will have to take that leave but you'll make money doing it. I'm not 100% positive on any of that but my first guess would be check with TMO. Hope it all works out. Good luck.

You gotta ask TMO- but they may work with you. I think sAm may be on to something. and they will have ideas to be able to help you (phone numbers, company recommendations, etc etc).

    Good luck workin it out!!

I am making the trip from Hood to Bragg at the end of January, let me know what your schedule is like. I think its the same with Airforce but do it your self moves aka ditty moves are a great way to make some cash off the move.

Dity move is the way to go if you have everything already packed up. You just have to front the money to get the uhaul and pay the gas and TMO will reimburse and then pay you so much per pound you carry. So load that truck down and get as much weight as you can. If she doesn't have much you might be better off letting them move you so you don't waste the time loading it all up and then driving across country. But if she has alot I suggest making a fun trip out of it in the process of the move. Check with TMO first though and see what options are open to you.

Ah man that suks. You due up for an assignment soon. Might be beneficial to wait and see if you get one in the states and just pick it up when you do the next dity move. I thought they would do something after you are married for your wife but guess I was wrong. Sorry to hear that man.

    I'm Thinking...Oh Yeah...An FJ
It's all in my head at the moment...
There are other companies other than U-Haul. U-Haul's are independently managed. For one-way rentals, don't expect a gem of a truck. Those are the first to get sent out so the center doesn't have to fix them.

Budget is a good place to start. Formally Ryder (residential) and Budget was or still is owned by Sears. For a discount make sure you ask for your military discount. Go to the post office and get one of those "Change of address kits". They have a coupon for Budget. It runs between 10% and 20% depending on the move. All kinds of goodies in that pack. Lowe's discounts, rental and storage discounts. I've grabbed one even though I'm not moving. 10% at Lowe's is great every time I have a big $ item to get.

Don't overlook Penske either. They ARE truck people. Their equipment is maintained.

Start with Budget and all the coupons, then Penske and then U-Haul, in that order.

Jump on something like Craig's list and see if someone is going the same way. Post something on base and ask the same question. Split the cost.

Hope this helps a bit. Or we could just have a conga line of recently TSB'd Tacomas hauling your stuff. (I hope I don't have to explain this)

The VA (Vets Admin) might have some help for you too.
