I got rear ended today by a Ford F350 with a large grill guard on it. She hit me very hard. Destroyed tailgate, bent the bed, bed hit the cab and is now in sort of a V shape when looking at truck fro side. The frame is also bent on both sides behind the rear wheel as it looks as though the truck hit and pushed the bed down on the frame, bending it.

Is my truck probably totaled? 2012 model. I'm just sick over this so I am trying to see what I might expect in the coming days. I'm having problems uploading pics.

I bet they total it. Being a 2012 model it's going to cost way too much to bother fixing.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Don't be sick over it; you didn't hit her; that's what counts and you may get a nice new truck.

You'll be fine, assuming she was insured...but they will prob total your truck and you'll get a new one...depending on how insurance works in your state you might not get enough for a new truck b/c your truck was "used" when it got totaled...it's crappy how that works.
If they do total it don't be afraid to haggle over the settlement. I did quite well on my totaled 1999 civic ex earlier this month.

In a way I want them to fix it but then again I don't want something to never "really" get fixed. The bed hit the cab also and did damage (I don't have pics of that) and the inside of the bed has a huge hump where that was bent. I just don't want it to be a lemon now after this if they do fix it.

I'm just new at this and don't know what to watch for as far as the appraisers go. Tomorrow they are supposed to tow the truck to the body shop I have chosen. It's also got really bad noises coming from it when you hit the brakes or turn, sounds like a loud grind. I just don't wanna get screwed in this deal. The insurance is helpful but then again they aren't trying to be my friend here.

No way they will total it. It's a 2012 truck. New bed and tailgate and bumper all painted around 7 k, straitened the frame, being generous 3k, so no they will not total it.

Unless frame is beyond economical repair but that's why auto body shops invest in frame pullers..

They may try to get you to accept having it straightened. I would fight that tooth and nail.

The other person's insurance company is likely to try to get you to take as little as they can get away with, i.e. fix as opposed to total. Have you conferred with your own insurance company? They should be your friend.

Fight getting it fixed tooth and nail and don't sign anything till you get things right. Remeber you were hit in the rear and it bent the frame of the truck they want you to sign quick. You have some leverage.

as was just said, sign nothing and DO NOT let them take the truck from the shop you had it towed to until you have a final satisfactory outcome. If you have proper insurance it costs you nothing to insist on a few days to "Get your stuff from the truck" before they take it away (if it is totaled). They love to take the car away and then present you with a value that you cannot contest because you have allowed the proof of value to be taken off to auction.
You really do want it totaled. The ins co wants you to be in love with your truck and accept a repair but you will lose 50% of the value on a resale. Nobody is going to pay $ for a truck with that much damage repaired...plus will your wheels ever be aligned properly after this? The brakes making noise (you were on the brakes during the accident probably) that noise is the same additional stress the wheels will face if you are towing or hauling a load...

Fight for a total, esp since you are not at fault and they will cover your deductible, alternative temporary transportation for 2 weeks...Your only issue will be if the total $ doesn't cover the remainder owed (if any) on your truck...that's why people get gap insurance on new cars..

    good luck!

That is totally fixable but the question becomes is it going to be fixed to your satisfaction. This is where you will have to stand firm if you don't want to accept a straightened frame.
