So I'm looking for a group 24F because that's the one that is supposed to fit. Okay, where to get a battery. I've heard that there are now only about two major manufacturers in the US since another company was bought out recently, which means that the "off-brands" are probably just fine now.

So my options are: walmart, batteries+, and costco. I wanted an AGM since they do better with small trickle drains from mods, but there are simply none in the seattle area that I can find in stock. The costo one is advertised but not yet available, the walmart one is out of stock in the entire west side of the state, and batteries+ only has a durcell non-AGM or the $450 X2 AGM as options (but both are in stock).

Not going to pay over $250 for a battery. The factory one lasted about five years and it's a cheapo. Can I run a larger battery in that spot without having to modify the tiedown mechanism? That might give me more options to select from in the above stores. Would rather not have to order and wait for a new holder.

Just get a regular 24F lead cell from Costco, Walmart, or wherever. Forget the AGM. It's not rocket surgery.

Just replace it with a deka. I have yet to find a battery that last longer.

Agm is a better battery with a better warranty. Iinterstate battery agm has a nice 4 year free replacement. Used it a few times since we run agm’s in our work trucks.

My 3yr old lead acid from Costco is still turning over the Taco faster than the stock one ever did, which barely lasted 3yrs.

I occasionally have my fridge plugged into the Taco. Never a starting issue.

Got a Interstate from Costco for my old Honda a few months ago and have had plenty of them over the years. They were smaller batteries but just over $100 with a 3-year warranty. If you can get to a Costco towards opening time, sometimes you can get them to sell you one if they’re not yet available depending on who you talk to and if they’re in the building yet.

I've always gone with interstate batteries. Though there prices have double in the last 3 years and they've cut there warranty in half. I think free replacement is down to 2 years.

Yea, and my dad said he'd never pay $1 for a burger or a gallon of gas either. But he did.

Don't overthink this. I've had good luck with Walmart batteries. I bought one Duracell from Sams Club that didn't last a year. Other than that, around 5-6 years is typical.

The factory battery lasted 5 years in my F150. I replaced it with one from Autozone because they were the only place open on a Sunday night while I was stranded on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Got a friend to drive my wife there while I worked to get the old one out. It lasted 3 1/2 years and I got a pro-rated refund since it died early. I used that, along with a manager's discount to try an AGM in that truck. We'll see if it does better.

OP You are making a big deal out of a very simple battery replacement. First off you have a tow package so you want a 27f not a 24f series. A 27F will fit just fine, no problem. Next you absolutely don’t need an agm battery nor do you need to pay anywhere close to $250 for a battery. Just go to Costco or Walmart and for $100 to about $120 you can get a great (27F) battery that will probably last 5 or more years. For many many years I have run Costco and Walmart batteries in all my vehicles and boats with 0 problems. All have lasted 5 or more years. Lastly I replace my batteries at 5 years as part of my routine maintenance. I don’t wait for them to fail, I just replace them at 5 years. So battery replacement cost works out to be about $20 to $25 per year. No problems, no hassles, no battery failures at in opportune times, no big expense.

If your good at a liitle modification you can fit a 34R. This is an AGM but you can find many regular ones. The liitle black box on the from is a 2amp maintainer since I can go weeks without doing any driving.

    Define Cold weather ?

Sub zero temperatures for weeks on end?

AGM batteries do not care for the smart alternators .

I have been buying East Penn Manufacturing seconds for years .

I swap them every 2 years for $50.00 I can not go wrong.

Then they get used in my project vehicles for another few years.

12 volts is 12 volts! Go get a Wally World battery and then head to your local Mexican joint for an early dinner.

Go 27F, get a better strap mount, and find a 27F plastic undertray.

If your truck gets frequently used and bounced around offroad, AGM is worth it for the sealed system. I found my stock battery was leaking out a lot of corrosive lead acid solution after a few trips, so I replaced it when I could afford a Tacomaworld group buy NorthStar AGM.

If you get an AGM, it helps to get an AGM capable charger for routine maintenance because the 3rd gen trucks don't like to charge over 13.7v. You just connect the accessory plug that comes with most chargers, and plug it in once a month to burn off the sulfate crystals that form on the electrode plates.

These are looking good and maybe my next battery; I think the screw terminals will be great for accessory lighting, etc.:

Check to see if you have a local retailer who can get you a better price... MSRP is insane ($499).

@Sprig , I’m replacing my 5yr old 24f battery. Why would I need to go to a 27f? I’ve got the tow package and so far have not had any problems with the 24f. Just asking, thanks.
