Need roof and canoe rack

Got a 2009 sport 4 door. What would you recommend for a rack? Some thing that can be left on the truck year round. Thanks

I love my Thule Xsporter rack. I've had the same rack permanently installed on my trucks since 2007 and had no issues. If you need to haul something tall, you can remove the main part of the rack in about 30 seconds and leave the mounts installed. They're a little pricey but well worth the cash. Recommend checking Craigslist for used racks.

One question, do you have a long or short bed? Some guys around here use one XSporter bedrack and another over the cab rack for long kayaks. I have a 6ft bed and can haul my 10'6" SUP boards and ocean kayaks with no issues.

 

Thanks sparky! I have the long bed. I also have a hard tonneau cover . Ideally the rack you linked would be great if I could still use the tonneau. Such an animal exist?

 

I don't know of a tall rack that mounts on a tonneau cover and I personally wouldn't drill a tonneau because it seems to defeat the cover's purpose. Best bet would probably be a roof rack on the cab. OEM rack uses the factory drilled holes under the rubber strips on your cab. Thule or Yakima racks would clamp onto the top of the doorframe.

Haven't researched them much for fit/durability but I'm sure someone will come along with better info.

 

If you use longer kayaks (touring) consider using a front cab rack and then fabbing up a "goal post" for your rear receiver to hold the back of the kayaks...I've seen a few on this forum and around town.

I believe Yakama makes one.

They have a customized bracket for the '05 and later Tacos that mounts to the rail system and allows the use of a tonneau cover. I attached pics below for my bed setup.
I use a Yakima Q tower over the front of my double cab. Clip set Q127.

Assembly is easy and the final setup is rock solid. We haul a 17 foot canoe on ours.

Hope this is helpful. Call them up and they will ship to the bed rack assembly. You can buy the over-cab part from them or many other places, but they specialize in the bed rack solution.
