.63 or .82 are my options, was leaning towards the .82.

It is ball bearing. You'll be good with the. 82. Going to be a screamer!

For reference, I'm running a 3582r (larger turbine wheel) on my 3.4 liter with .63 A/r. It spools very quick. 3" downpipe & Cat, 2.5 shorty exhaust.

I just picked up a .82 housing and I'm going to do 3" after the cat. Hoping to not loose too much spool.

With a 4 liter, you might consider the larger turbine wheel.

    @Torspd your thoughts?

I'm trying to figure out oil feed next, are you using a restricted feed? I found .035 inlets but noticed Garrett recommends .040. Also, are you water cooling? I was wondering if I could use the throttle body bypass lines?

I do have a oil restriction fitting. Off hand I can't remember the size.
Definitely want to water cool the turbo.
I used the throttle body lines like you said.

What kind of driving are you doing?
How much power do you really want/need?
    Forged internals or stock rebuild?

It's going to be my daily driver and overlanding rig. I had 400 at the wheels as a goal, hope that's realistic. I've got forged internals and upgraded springs/valves and head studs.

I think you could save some coin and go with the Gt3582r and get the results you want.

Check out the compressor maps between Gt3582 and Gtx3576.

They are remarkably similar. I hemmed and hawed over those two and the gen 2 version of the 3582. I just wasn't sure if the 3582 was overkill for my build or not. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, so I guess more research is in order tomorrow. I guess I could look at the gen 1 version of the 3576 too.

What turbo is/was on there now?
    Boost and power level?
    How did you like it?

I think you will want the larger turbine wheel for your displacement. I have that turbo on a stock 3.4 and it works great.

It's got a Garrett, not sure what model though. On the previous build, it dynoed at 356, not sure how much boost it took to get there since it wasn't mine at the time. This is my first forced induction vehicle, so I don't have much to compare to, but it was a lot of fun, enough to get me to commit the time and money to do it right.

Here are a couple screen grabs showing part throttle response.
4th gear (auto on the freeway)
    ~ 35% throttle
Pressure measured in absolute, so 14psi is local atmospheric, anything above this is boost.
You can see ~2 psi at 1900
    ~5 psi at 2300

These are crude obviously, keeping my eye on the road and just pointing the camera at the screen, some variation in results, but gives you an idea on response, again around 1/3 throttle. Also I've added a more effective intercooler since then (Garrett also).Screenshot_20210127-221536_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20210127-221704_Gallery.jpg

Welp, I'm wrong. I thought the 76 and 82 were in reference to the exhaust wheel, basically thinking they put a gt3076 exhaust wheel with a 35r compressor. Nope.
New compressor wheel is smaller and flows the same or more.
Either way, both are still good choices for your engine. Price will decide.

My vote still lies with the GTX choice. Newer technology than the GT line. Next would be the G Series.

I totally get the new tech position, but $500 extra for a compressor wheel? In today's crazy world? He's not competitively racing the vehicle. That $ could go towards dyno tuning, fueling upgrades, clutch, ceramic coating ect.

If money is no object, then G series all the way! For 10-12psi of boost though, I personally think the Gt3582r is plenty fine on a built 4 liter. With the .82 housing it should spool like the .63 on my 3.4 liter. For off roading, this will be more than enough.

Definitely something to think about. My mom used to say though, if you can't afford to go first class, you can't afford to go ;)

Don't quote me on this, but aren't the G Series turbine outlets 4"?

If so, then that is why the GTX gets my vote.
