Do you NEED 4x4? if no, just wait and save up to buy one yourself. Just begging the parents for a 4x4 because you "want" it, after they bought you this truck and are (presumably) paying for your schooling wont put you in a good light.

Be glad they bought you a new truck in the first place. I had to work my ass off for a 10 year old 1st gen :cookiemonster:

not only that but you get better mileage with the 2wd anyways. Since you're not wheeling, see that as a good thing.

First, I need to tell you that you don't own a piece of wood, so it's not a 2x4. You own a 4x2 and to be more precise you have a PreRunner - unless you just badged it as such. It's a very nice truck. How long ago was your truck hit? Did you report it to the police and your insurance company? I know that you're an adult and in college - possibly trying to be more independent, but have you notified your parents about the damage. How much is your deductible? You may want to get the truck fixed then try to trade it in.

Since the Tacoma was a gift from your parents, I would let them know of your intentions. Let them know that you are thankful for their generosity, but you have been thinking about trading in it for a 4x4 model. In the meantime, take the truck to a dealership to see what they would give you for it on a trade - AS IS. How bad is the damage - post pics if you have any? Ask the dealership what they would give you for it on a trade if you got it fixed. If the difference is more than your deductible, consider getting the damage repaired, but don't take it to a cheap repair shop. Make sure that the shop does a quality job.

Do you need a double cab? How many miles do you have on your Tacoma? Figure out what you NEED in a truck versus what you WANT in a truck. Once you figure out what you need, look to see what's available. Either way, you will need some money to pay for the difference unless you get more for your PreRunner than the one you want to buy. See if you can find a part-time job working on the weekends. You'll need some income.

    Good luck!

2x4 4x2 same thing haha you know what i mean :p The damage isn't terrible, some dents and a deep scratch on the door, and of course i informed my parents. Ive been hit three times and people just drive off, not respect at all. I would have to wait till the summer so i can earn the money to pay for the damages to be repaired, which would cost about 1000$ give or take.

My truck has 25,000 miles on it... Im taking two classes over summer to make my next semester at school a little more relaxed, in hopes that i can get a job a few days a week, because i hate not having money to buy things here and there. I saved up 4 grand before school and im down to 1,000 because im paying for gas and have no income. thanks a lot for the help!

I was the class president, NHS vice president, JROTC battalion commander, captain of the rifle team, captain of the paddling team, professional musician, all while working as a farmhand and keeping a 3.9 GPA throughout high school... still had to pay for my own truck

I wasnt calling you a greedy shit, I was saying that if it's more of a "want" than a "need", you should prioritize school and saving your money until you get to a place where you can fund your own way to a 4x4. Trust me, it gets really, really expensive.

that's my .02, but since you only want people who agree with what you're trying to do here, I'll bow out.

Without adding all your options, your PreRunner had a trade-in value of about $22k. See if you're able to find a used 4x4 for about $22k out the door.
