I’m looking to purchase my first toyota tacoma soon. i’ve gone down the rabbit hole of different years and have finally landed on a 2015 double cab. I recently found a 2015 double cab with under 15k original miles. Everything looks great on the truck from pictures and i’m making a long drive to check the truck out in a few days. I’m wondering if there’s anything i should keep my eye out for when buying a 2015 tacoma or if there’s anything i should keep an eye out for when buying such a low mileage truck. I plan to fit a rear facing car seat in the back but this won’t be my main form of transportation so space shouldn’t be a huge issue.

    Thanks in advance.

Some would say that the 2015 is the best year of all Tacoma's.

Nice finding a 9-year old truck with only 15K-miles on it. Seems pretty low, was it hardly driven or perhaps garaged?

I'd inquire on how on many owners has there been, and definitely run a Carfax report.

I have never had any problems with my 2015 Sport DCSB, and she drives just as good as she did when I drove her off the dealership lot 9+ years ago.

Make sure you check the frame thoroughly, even though it's low mileage it could still be rotted out. Also look for any evidence of accident damage, leaks, etc.

pretty much rust depending on where it's lived

    sun state no rust
Rust belt salting roads, may be rust

also potential for frame been replaced, or still covered based on year

Glad to hear! Forgot to mention I ran the carfax and there’s no accident history or damage. Looks like it was regularly serviced a few times a year. Not sure about garage kept though.

Good tips so far. Having an inspection done from an independent third party is always money well spent IMO. Good luck, they're great trucks.

love my 2015 with 150,000 (almost) miles. Ive kept up the fluid film to keep rust at bay, and just changed fluids. Sadly, i am looking to upgrade to a full size, really dont want to let it go. but, its a great year. Its a solid truck, just look over for rust. you may notice a little transmission shudder around 40 mph, and really its kind of common. Mine has done it for as long as i can remember

haha will do! it’s at a toyota dealership and after looking at the carfax it looks like it was originally purchased from this dealership and serviced regularly there so hopefully they can provide all the info I need

Good luck with the buy, 15K miles is astounding! I am at over 165K on my 2015 with no issues. They're the ultimate tacoma! Just make sure that frame is cherry, and you'll be all good. Test drive it and check for weird noises and such.

sounds like you might have found one of those needles in the haystack owned by someone who really didn't need or want to drive much and took good care of their vehicle.

I'd check for rust, see how it idles and drives. Anything else should be more or less pristine at that mileage, though it wouldn't be the worst idea to get a 3rd party assessment.

Good idea to check the common modded components too...suspension, tires, wheels, lighting, etc. If they're all still stock that's even more promising

Post up some pics of this truck once you’re onsite. I need to see this thing. Hell I may buy it if don’t. What’s the asking price?

    It's a 9 year-old truck that sat. Watch for:

Rodent damage to fuel injector and knock sensor wiring under the intake manifold.
Frame rust (look for fist-sized holes near the catalytic converters)
Steering rack leak (seepage near the tie rod bellows)
Timing cover leak (near the power steering pump)
Various seal leaks (front main seal, rear main seal, transfer case extension housing seal...)

    Less expensive things to fix:
    Rotted out radiator support bushings
A/C leak at the high-pressure line going to the condenser
The spare tire if original will be hard as a hockey puck, needing replacement.
