I've got a 17' tacoma I've been running with bilstein 5100 up front and OME 888 coils without a bumper. I'm looking to buy a bumper which weighs about 153lbs + a winch that I haven't picked yet. I was wondering if I should get beefier springs as I'll be adding close to 200lbs up front.

    My data point.

I installed a slimline bumper, and a winch last year, and didn’t change the suspension. I can’t tell any difference in driving/ handling and didn’t measure before and after.

Just a thought- add the winch and bumper and see how it behaves with your particular setup, and then get into suspension if you think it is warranted.

If nothing else, it’ll spread the financial pain out.

    Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the reply. I contacted Headstrong offroad where I bought my full suspension setup from and came to the conclusion that the 886s would be the best pick. But I will do what you mentioned and wait to see how it turns out before I do that. Replacing coils is an easy enough job to do at a later date.

Sounds like a good plan, although I don’t know anything about the parts you mentioned- I’m not planning on lifting.

Lots of folks here mention using Headstrong so I’m sure you got good info/ service from them.

Put some pictures up when you get everything installed.

    I agree completely @PTPinETN

Measure before and after at the install and then give it at least a month or so and measure again. That will give a a solid data point to go off.
