I recently changed my oil in my 2011 Tacoma... today I noticed after slowing down to take a turn, once I was through the turn and went to press on the gas it seemed to not want to go. Like the rpm jumped up to 2-3 and then it kind of kicked. So I took it back home and checked the oil level and it seemed really really high. Like an inch past the max full. So I'm draining my oil out and am going to put some back in. I dumped 5 quarts of oil in the first oil change but only about half came out... what's going on? Does any one have any suggestions of what might be wrong?

Don’t be offended, but are you sure you drained engine oil and not the tranny?

Yeah I’m positive I drained the oil. This isn’t the first oil change I’ve done on it, but I can’t help but feel like an idiot for not being able to figure this out.

    Yeah.
Uh-oh. So when you originally drained the oil, only about 3 quarts came out? And you went home and drained more and only about 3 quarts came out? That sounds like transmission fluid.

The truck is parked on a level surface and I took the oil fill cap off and drain plug out and I’m just letting it drain out of the engine but it seems like nothing is coming out.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
It does sound like you've emptied the transmission and refilled the motor.

What does the dip stick show after you drain the engine oil? If its still shows full, I would side with the transmission fluid theory.

The part of the oil pan for the engine oil drain plug is real small and the low part of the trans pan is about twice the length. Engine oil drain is near the front of the engine and the trans is right behind the rear of tge engine. Easily mistaken for the engine oil pan :anonymous:

I've been there lol. Hopefully you can just fill the trans back up and be good to go.

    Yeah.
Whoah now, don't fret. If you haven't driven it a long way, everything is probably just fine. Just need to add tranny fluid and get your oil level right.

Please do not drive the truck until the transmission fluid level has been remedied.

Alright I haven’t driven far at all. Like 2 miles total. I’m gunna drain the oil and get that right and take another car to get some transmission fluid. Where do I fill the tranny back up? Just so I don’t fuck this up again.

    Don’t panic.

There’s a thread on here on how to fill the tranny, follow it closely. If you’re unable to or not confident with your abilities you’ll need to get it towed to a shop you trust and have it done.

Also, find the engine oil plug and drain it completely, then put in 5.5 quarts.
