New to the tacoma world. Want to keep this thing around for a while. Unfortunately I don't know much about replacement parts and what I do find is usually for 4x4 6 lug trucks.

I know the frames are different but im curious about whether rear bumpers are interchangeable, as well as doing a 2.7 to v6 swap and if the mounts line up. I also need to know what the largest wheels I can get without rubbing at stock height would be. Basically any info you may have in regards to where to get parts for a 4x2 xtracab. What parts are compatible from which bodystyles etc.

parts I am currently on the lookout for include a real tow hitch (will 4x4 ones bolt onto my frame?), rear bumper (aftermarket?), frame(or replacement sections if they are manufactured new somewhere?), carpet, steering wheel, wheels (maybe factory toyota wheels that are larger than 14"?), heavy duty leaf springs, new front shocks. Anything else that anyone might think of or know about.

thanks in advance and please let me know if im breaking a rule or posting in the wrong place

Hello and welcome to TW! You have a 1st Gen. Tacoma, to start... Check out the 1st Gen. & 5-Lug forums for more info. I'm pretty much the last person on here to ask about mods, though. As far as breaking rules and posting in wrong forums goes, there will be no shortage of feedback... Good luck!:)

thanks for the response. I actually did post this in 1st gen forums to start and was told to post in 5-lug section. Which I've done here. Unless there is a 1st gen-5 lug section? Could absolutely be the case but I cannot find one by navigating through the forums on my phone.

if anyone has any information I could also use some info on rims. I know I need a 67mm or larger center. What id like to find out is the magic offset number for flush wheels.

I can answer your question about the tow hitch. I have a factory tow hitch from a 96 4x4 on my 97 2we bolted rite on. Rear bumpers are the same. There are diffrences in the front bumpers.

front bumpers 95.5-00 are totally interchangeable
01-04 have a larger nose but still use the same mounting points.
rear bumpers 95.5-04 are fully interchangeable.

95.5-04 Tacoma never came with a factory tow package from Toyota and were a dealer add on only.

You can buy a plug and play wire kit compatible from 89-04 Toyota trucks from Amazon.
