So far today I've spent a couple of hours removing the driver's panel and testing the motor on the mechanism. NOW with that done. Need a step by step explanation from some Expert that can explain the procedure to remove the assembly and/or replacing the motor. This is a 2001 Toyota Tacoma SR5 auto with 2.7 engine.

I've tried, also with an assistant, to try to figure out how to remove, if necessary, the mechanism with the motor; or an easier way to get at the motor. Yes, there are a couple of screws that Toyota used to fasten the motor to the mechanism. Would like to hear from Someone or Anybody from Our Family Forum what procedure they've used that works best. It's a mystery how they were able to get the mechanism & motor into the door and then how to take it out for repair and/or replacement? Looking forward to hearing from Our Forum on this. Thank you! SP

you can test the motor without removing it so do that first to see if its the motor, if it is then see below on how to replace it

    here goes:

lower the window all the way, then there is a hole you look through to see and be able to unbolt the rear bolt holding the window onto the track assembly.

once you have the bolt in the hole you can get a ratchet on it to unbolt it and take the two bolts out. next the rear window track needs to come out so there is a bolt on one side and a nut on the other and just those two mounting points, once its loose you carefully pull the window seal out of it as you slide it out then manipulate it to get it out of the door. now carefully lift up and back on the window to get it off of the regulator bracket then let it rest in the bottom of the door. now lift the window up a few inches as you lift the back end up and out first at a 45 degree angle and it comes out the top so be careful not to damage the outer door window seal. installation is just reverse what you just did.

to get the window regulator and motor out there are 6 10mm bolts, 2 are where the arm rest would be and that holds the regulator arms for support when operating, 4 more are at the motor mounting position and once those are out the whole thing will be loose in your hands to manipulate it out the big open hole.

as I mentioned before, its only sold and replaced (new or used) as a complete unit so you accomplish nothing by separating the motor from the regulator bracket even though it does come apart

I'll be checking out the prices of the units that are for sale on the net. Your instructions are encouraging and hopefully we will have better success at replacing it when the part come in. You're procedure covered most of the things that we overlooked. Will have to pause a bit to build up some courage when the time comes to replace unit. Will post on the end result in time. Hoping to have a happy ending! SP

The video has helped to better address the issue of the window. Also, as you observed, the 4-runner is very similar so by viewing the video + instructions provided I will be better prepared for replacing the new mechanism.

I've picked up those links on where to purchase the mechanism. Actually this is just a start, as I will have to go through the same protocol for replacing the EGR Valve & the Headlight, dimmer, turn signal switch. Not to start anything but I've located a complete (new) window mechanism & motor on ebay for around 35.00, shipping included, for our 2001 Tacoma. I would prefer to purchase from our Forum Family but that price is extraordinary in my humble opinion.

Will probably spend the week end searching around & hopefully ordering all the Items. If they arrive promptly, That will give me some time to install before having to leave around Sept 12.

Appreciate your assistance with others that took the time to reply & research the instructions & videos. SP

Hope I'm not out of line here - Just receive the EGR valve for the Tacoma. Just thought I'd provide some feedback for RockAuto. First order and they handled it accurately & very promptly. Price was very competitive. Hopefully this Senile Senior, will be able to install this without any major problems. Thanks for posting! SP
