Does anyone know how to, or where I can find, information on how to remove my moonroof, and track assembly? I need to clean it out due to image.jpg sand and grime in it. Otherwise I'm out 1500 dollars! -__-Thanks for the help guys!

Yea I did check other shops however I was granted a few months ago a platinum warranty from Toyota Corp for all of the shit my truck has been through. The primary concern at this point is I want to ensure the fix or whatever will be covered under warranty in regards to the platinum coverage. I would hate to lose that free warranty for potential future issues with the moonroof anyways. The service manager advised me to potentially let it sit and wait a while to see if the work I did to clean it continues to help it improve in functionality. That way if there is ever a future problem then I can use my warranty to fix the roof rather than my own money. I asked him if that would be a smart choice considering all of the "sugar" sand here but he said the way it looks now in the tracks resembles normal wear and tear for this area. Sorry for the long response.

They have to remove the headliner to clean out the tracks and supposedly it's a really long process...

He already caught hell in another thread for the reason he has sand in his vagi, errr, moonroof.

Maybe stop one of the techs at your dealer on his way to lunch and offer him some side work to offset the cost and pay him cash. Those guys are NOT allergic to money.

You will need to remove your headliner. Then remove the glass and sunshade. After that you will be able to see the tracks and clean it then. But be careful if you do it when removing the headliner because you can leave wrinkles on it. I have removed Alot in my career. It's actually easy but very time consuming. Also use plastic trim tools. The grab handles, map and dome lights tend to have little pry marks very easily and looks ugly. Once you remove it you will be able to slide the track back and forth with a socket and ratchet. I'm not sure what these new gen trucks use for the socket size. Latley Alot use Allen sockets and torx bits.

    Well lol lets see here....

Bone dry grease zerks, transmission shifting erratically, flares all of the time from 1-2, 2-3, squeaky rear end(still waiting on a fix for that), alignment issues, low atf fluid, damage from the service department on my vehicle, etc...

I feel for you man. As I'm sure you're aware I've had a ton of issues with my truck too.

I'll tell you I don't envy your situation with the moon roof. I think there is a reason they're charging you that much because they have to take a whole helluva lot of crap apart and there's some risk something could get damaged in the process. Same reason I dont like ripping apart the interior of my truck to add aftermarket stereo shit, because a lot of times that stuff never quite goes back together the same way it came from Factory.

So with that I'd say you may be best to bite the bullet and have Toyota take it apart and fix it, at least then theyre on the hook to make sure it all goes back together properly. It surely isn't a job I'd want to tackle myself. At least not to do a real thorough job that's probably required to get all of the grit out.

I'm guess it's your first time. It will take a long time. Normally with experience it takes two hours or so to remove it. Once out depending on the issue it can take another few hours. But cleaning it out and greasing it up is easiest. Your hardest thing will be not to break the clips and damage the trim. Those can get tricky

Man oh man. Well if you find anything on removing it please let me know. I'm going to continue to do some research on this subject. If I end up doing it on my own, with a buddy obviously, I'll do my best to annotate what was done for the forum. Thanks for the advise brother.

Lol that's a very ethical decision indeed! Quite honestly, the Colorado drives like the Tacoma post update. Wasn't impressed at all. On top of that the interior was weak compared to my truck. I just don't want to dump this truck cause I do love it. I just hate the petty like things that seem to keep coming up. Full sized or ranger FTW
