down with the sickness and click click boom always is my pre-workout song that gets me ready to just tear someones f$%^ing head off!!

whey protein after a workout, preferrably before bed helps rebuild muscle tissue. if you really want to add some muscle though, get creatine for a pre-workout regime,

If you decide to stack whey with creatine make sure you DRINK TONS OF WATER. Don't want to ruin the kidneys.

Hey Aaron thought I'd pitch in since I researched and studied weight loss, weight gain, supplements, work out regimens, and just about everything else you can think of that has to do with being in the weight room. Weather it be time spent in there or the kind of a workout used or even the machines used for a total of three years:). All of the advice given so far is good. However it really boils down to what kind of results you really are looking for... It could be just loosing the beer gut, or toning or bulking up "getting bigger". With that said your age also plays a role. What are you really looking for???

Is the protein really need to just loss weight? I have always heard it is mainly just to help build muscle.

Also what is the best cardio for losing weight? I know running is good but what are some other options.

Protein can be and should be used for both. If you are just trying to loose weight and are doing cardio, and light weight high rep workouts protein will replenish your muscle and get it ready for your next workout. When you do that instead of your muscle using your existing muscle to fix itself wich as you might guess is counter productive, your body will use the protein you put in through shakes, good protein based foods and your fat cels to fix it self. Which is exactly what you are looking for in that scenario. If you are trying to build muscle protein will do the same. It will feed your torn muscle tissues to build another layer of muscle but in this scenatio you need to use protein that lasts in your body which is called casein protein. There is a difference in whey and casein protein, and yes both exist. Hope that helped, keep asking question if need.

EDIT: Forgot to add the cario types to burn weight.

Any cardio will do to burn fat cells. The best way to loose weight is to hit the tread mill, olyptical or whatever you prefer for 5-10 minutes before you workout to get your heart rate up to speed. Than spend up to 45 minutes lifting weights or using machines, this will keep heart rate up and burn some fat cells. And than finally the hardest part of your work out get back on that treadmill or olyptical whichever one you can handle for 30 min but don't make it easy on your self sice this is where the most results will come from. You'll uderstand why I say this is the hardest part when you try it. Don't spent any more than specified because you will hurt your self.

From what I have found out thru trying it on my own and having other "gym rats" try it out. I found that yes majority of supplements bring results, some bring little while others give you crazy results. The sheer fact is everyones body produses creatine, protein, testasterone, amino acids, so on and so on. It just does not produse a huge amount of it. It produces enough to supply your body with what it needs. With that said sure you can take supplements to gain an edge on results, and yes you will deff notice results quicker than without using supplements. What some people are not informed about is, when you use supplements like creatine, amino acids, testosterone, and others. Your body stops producing those things since you are giving it way more than it usualy needs. If taken for a certain amount of time your body simply gives up on producing those things because it gets used to depending on you supplying it with said "supplements". Therefor when you stop taking said supplements your body has no way of getting those needed nutrients, so it starts to eat away at all that muscle that you gained thru using what you were using to get what it needs. This is why a guy that used to be huge looks small after a while of not taking supplement and/or working out. His body ate away his gained muscle because he stopped supplying it with all those nutrients. By eating certain foods you can make your body produce more creatine, testasterone, and so on. This way even if you stop working out your results will last longer and if you do loose any results it will be minimal copared to loosing results that you gained thru supplements. My advice is if you want longer lasting results do it as naturally as you can.

thanks for the advice guys! helps alot. im mainly looking to get the muscle i once had (back in high school) back to normal. i used to be in pretty good shape. was running the mile in under 8 mins, i could do at least 15 pull ups..... the other night, i ran the treadmill, 8 mins and only made 1/2 mile! im not any where near what i was. i am 5'9ish, 160 lbs, still have outlines of muscle but for the most part, fat. trying to tone (i guess) my upper body muscles. i use to be great at rock climbing (indoor), had tons upper body strength not so much any more. want to get myself back to being healthy again. kinda want that look like the dude on the bowflex commercials. :p not to sound like a wannabee.
