Been wanting one of these for years now and nearly had a heart attack when I saw it. I called the dealership immediately and they sent me over a list of what's wrong with it. Need to know if my excitement is blinding me into a money pit or not haha. I know some of these I don't need to fix right away but what do you guys think? (waiting on a video of the frame from the dealer for rust) If yes in what order do you recommend fixing it? Thanks

If you buy this truck, you pay or the dealer fixes it on their dime?

I would buy the truck as is and that's their estimate of how much it would be to repair at the Toyota dealership, out of my pocket

Although their repair prices are way out of whack, I'd call that one a money pit even if you do all of the work.

WOW. Grant it, not all of that stuff needs fixed and a lot of it can be done by you or somewhere else for cheaper but thats a grand total of $18,120.06. That's before spending 10k on the truck.

They're telling you if all of that was fixed by them, the truck is worth $28,120.06

It's a 2006 so who knows about the head gasket. Or the frame.

If youve got the money and time to fix that truck, youve got 20k to buy one without all that bs.
Unless you just want a project for yourself.

You are definitely blinded by your excitement.

With some of the suspension and steering issues it tells me that truck has had a very hard life and no telling what the previous owner did or how it was treated.

Hard pass, you can find a better taco, Peter in San Antonio.

its not easy finding a $10K tacoma in decent shape. alot of the stuff listed is not important. Most LCA cam bolts will be siezed and this is not an issue until it needs to be aligned, if it drives straight, then don't touch them for now. steering rack needs to be replaced and if the front shocks are bad then those should be done as well. most tacoma ebrake cables are broken where they come out of the backing plate, cable can be replaced when the rear brakes are done. if you do the work yourself, the rack, pump, struts and rear brakes can be done for ~$1000.

If the frame is solid, I would consider it, but all depends how much it will cost you to get the stuff that needs to be fixed corrected...

Tuff call. I'd say only worth it if you can do most of the work yourself. Perhaps other than the steering rack and associated parts.

I paid $14,500 for an '06 7 years ago. Did a full front end rebuild, all wear parts with shocks and wheel bearings. Other usual stuff, new factory headlights, battery, front brakes, EGS bushing, fan blower connector, tires and today have a 175,000 mile '06 with $20k in it.

It drives like new and I will drive it anywhere.

I occasionally snug up the front valve cover to keep the weep leak that they most all have to a minimum. If the truck was made after 11/2005 then don't sweat the head gasket.

Don't buy rust. Follow the history of where the truck has lived and what ever maintenance history you can track down.

I’m curious why all of the lights are blown. Surely can’t be a coincidence.

    back to bone stock.
i think that is way too much money. i have a 2006 and the only thing that doenst work is the overhead temp/compass thing. (which is incredible that it works on the OP's hopeful purchase)

these days, i bet i can only get $12k for it, around here. i wouldnt buy that black one at all.

My biggest worry would be the electrical in this truck; with multiple bulbs blown, a known hack into the wiring harness and the cruise control out, you could end up chasing electrical gremlins for however long you own this.

That said, if you are capable of doing most of this work yourself, and if the frame is solid, it might be a fun project for you. If there's more than one or two things you can't do yourself, I'd pass on it.

If it was me, I would be running, not walking, away from it.

If you are handy most of those items could be fixed by you for pennies on the dollar. Tons of great write-ups on TW how to do pretty much all those. I would focus on safety repairs and truck mechanical longevity (fluids, seals, etc.). I personally would ignore the TPMS sensors and things like that as that's a luxury and not a necessity. If you are not handy and good at inspecting vehicles I would have someone you trust and/or a mechanic look through the truck. If it passes inspection... I wonder if you could even negotiate down a little more using their own repair list against them.

I would be a little worried about all the deferred maintenance as it could indicate the truck was not maintained super well (i.e. regular oil changes, transmission service, diff service, etc.). It could also just be standard dealer upsell... a lot of it looks like some of that based on pricing.

That truck is tired and broken. I can visualize what the frame looks like. My vision aint pretty.
