First off, Just dont get yourself in too big of debt that you cant afford to pay back.
Your young, get what you want!!! The tacoma is not a sports car or a luxury vehicle, its a truck. If you have no use for a truck, get something you want.
The Corolla will get you around just fine in the winter with some good snow tires on it.

Get the car, you are young, enjoy yourself. Did you consider a used GT ? My father just got an '08 Bullit mustang, that thing is a beast. You can get one only a couple of years old, not the new motor, but how much "power" do you really need. GO for it.

Just remember something better will come out in less than a year. It's a vicious cycle.

thanks for all the input guys. ive done a lot of number crunching recently. im putting $1000 back a month into 2 different savings accounts, i also have my pre-tax 401k contribution of 8.5% out of my paycheck. i have $800 in bills (rent, utilities, payments, insurance, food, etc) and the rest is pocketed. i feel an extra $100 a month for a mustang shouldnt make me go broke.

i realize i will most definitely need a truck when i purchase a house. i do plan on buying an older tacoma or toyota truck within the next year, before i buy a house. that way ill have an old truck to get me around in really bad weather when the corolla cant make it. plus i have the hauling capabilities.

Mark Twain wrote, "20 years from now you'll be more disappointed in the things you didn't do than the things you did do..." so i want to be able to say one day, man i had a 5.0 and it was nice for a while. then my life's needs changed and i traded it in for a more suitable vehicle. so i think im gonna live a little on the edge while i can, and get it. ill post some pictures of it when i get one.

right now i got one coming in from detroit that is exactly what id want if i got one. its sterling grey metallic (charcoal grey) with brembo brake package and HID's. black leather interior and all that good stuff. thanks again for your input guys!

    Good luck and enjoy!!

$800/mo in bills...Wow, I've forgotten what that feels like. My grocery bill alone exceeds that.

OP: I'm not going to lecture you, but let me tell you about my experience. I'm 31 years old. I own my house in full. I own my truck in full. I don't owe anybody money. If I lost my job, or my wife lost her job, I could take care of us for a couple of years on my savings. That feeling of security is worth its weight in gold, and I wouldn't trade it for all the stuff in the world. Given your earning potential with OT, this is within reach for you, too. Maybe it should be the priority?

Another thing to consider is that once you're wealthy, it's a lot easier to get filthy rich. Today, you should focus on becoming wealthy. Maybe tomorrow you can afford to have 10 Mustangs. And I really mean "afford"...not "you could swing the payments."

For today, focus on saving your first $10k (401k doesn't count). Then pat yourself on the back and turn it into $100k. Repeat many times. THEN, sit back and reward yourself. There will still be Mustangs to buy and room in your driveway.

well guys i bit the bullet on tue night. traded in the truck and drove away with the 2011 mustang gt 5.0 i gotta say it is an awesome car. it is wicked fast and definitely gets the looks.

i will admit, i do miss the truck already. i havent needed a truck for anything yet but i just miss the truck in general. it does suck, now that it actually happened, that i got a little more in debt. buttttt, ya only live once. i cant take none of this shit with me when i die so might as well enjoy it.

besides, when the time comes to settle down and get a house and get married and all that. ill have a good valued trade in for a new tacoma! i will keep my word and say my next truck will be a toyota. ill post some pics of the bad beast later!

    You're 22. Get that Mustang!
Perhaps you could trade the corolla for a beat up truck also.

thanks! ill enjoy her for as long as i can. but once life's priorities change, ill be looking for a truck!

there will always be a bigger, better, faster car next year or next generation. not sure what kind of situation ill be in when that one comes out. may not be able to get it.

but u are right, it is a bummer i got rid of the truck. id like to have paid it off, but ya only live once. have some fun while ur living.

ill probably end up doing that before too long!

Congrats on the new pony! Get a pair of Ford Racing 'Stinger' mufflers and you will miss your truck less and less each time you fire up the 'Stang.

I had an '07 GT before I got my truck. I wanted/needed a truck so I sold the Mustang, but the day the Taco is paid off I plan to pick up a 5.0 to keep the truck company in the garage.:D

Oh yeah man, enjoy the 5.0 - I'll be getting one in a couple years when the truck's paid off. That'll probably be it through - three cars is enough.

As for life priorities, don't get married. Don't have kids. All it does is ruin the fun.
