I have a 2003 stepside taco that has been rear ended destroying the rear bumper. Is anyone familiar with an aftermarket option to replace the OEM bumper? They are different from the non stepside and my understanding is that they are not in production any longer.

All aspects of the stepside are different in the rear. bumper and tailgate. The bed is also much heavier than the standard.
having had a stepside previously, i wish you the best of luck in finding one. you are looking for a needle in a haystack.
I wound up switching my entire bed and tailgate for a fleetside so i could have a shell (without waiting an eternity to find one).

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Is having someone make a bumper not an option?

Sadly not enough demand for aftermarket production.

Yes, this the 2nd 2003 Tacoma that I have owned that has gotten rear-ended and deemed a total loss by the insurance company yet visually appearing to only have a damaged bumper. Of course there is more damage than just the bumper. I don’t want to part with it but it will be a salvage title and efforts to fix it will be of significant expense and challenging due to a lack of existing parts. “Needle in the haystack” comment is most appropriate. I am currently keeping the insurance company in limbo as I ponder my options.

    hot damn. Did its job.
Is the frame bent or tweaked?

OEM+paint is the way to go to replace it over looking for one.
I see stepsides quite often around me in socal so car-part.com would be a good spot to start looking for a non mangled one.
but it'll be significantly cheaper to have one fabbed up than the OEM route.

How much damage did the frame take??

Has the rear axle been moved at all?

There was some flex as the left front corner of the bed just barely touched the cab. The space between bed and cab looks unchanged currently but body shop discussed that potential of frame damage. Yes, I did use car-part.com for a prior stepside item, the odd panel at the very front of the bedside which is actually in the picture. The entire Left bed panel needs replacing and all the brackets for bumper attachment and bumper. Used OEM is probably the route to attempt. I will be surprised if I find a bumper but this has been helpful. Wish me luck.
