This is why I go with aftermarket steel assembly stuff which removes all that BS. No thanks for all that OE garbage.

Here's a stupid question. Are you sure it's in the suspension? The large possibility exists that it is your steering system, and the issue is occurring somewhere in the intermediate shafts. I thought I had a suspension issue going over rough roads until I addressed all of the inherent issues our steering system has. I was ready to burn the damn truck down. Now the entire front end is dead silent over any sort of road. I love it again.

Also, make sure your sway bar is not causing it. You may have to eliminate the links and the bar and take it for a spin to see if it stops. Do not eliminate the links alone otherwise the bar will strike the CV boots and tear them.

Well I'm actually not sure it is the suspension. I just replaced all four tie rod ends, both sway bar links, both sway bar bushings, and the coilover top hats. I also recently replaced (in the last 3-6 months) both the UCAs and LCAs, installed new rad mount bushings, as well as added sway bar spacers to make sure it wasn't because it was hitting something. I pulled the bumper off and checked everything I could see, nothing appeared loose or broken. I'm stumped. Anything else you can think of checking? Thanks for the reply

I'm wondering if there is anything in the 5100s themselves that could cause a noise like that. I've heard of the OMEs making noises, but not much about the Bilsteins.

Are you able to post a video of the noise? If you have some miles on those billies they could be making noise from the inside. Struts fail in multiple ways but noise from them could be one of their failures as well.

If it is not suspension related and you took care of the body mounts, then it is 100% steering related and originating from somewhere in your steering system. Most likely your steering shafts are the issue. These trucks are extensive in their noises but once taken care of are so dead quiet.

I have about 20k on the billies, let me try to get a video whenever I get off duty with my brothers GoPro. I did jump the truck on a little sand dune once when I first lifted it, which was a dumb decision in hindsight. Not sure which side the sound is coming from, it's hard to pinpoint.

Happens when you BACK out of the driveway? Check for warped brake drums. Been down that road.

Sounds good, I should be home in a few days!

Also I just looked at your build thread, dude your truck is insane! Dual shocks, supercharger, playing in the dunes, that would be so much fun.

Thanks man! It's been a fun truck to own and play with for sure. There's been more to it lately too. I haven't added to the thread in a long long time but it is in need of some serious updating.

Hey I updated the OP with what I just found after going through some dips and over a series of 5 speed bumps to test some stuff out. It seems it's dependent on if I hit the brakes or not. If I get the chance I may still video it though. Thanks for the suggestions!

Out of curiosity, did you ever lube the pins when you replaced the brake pads?

The pads will always shift a little but between doing the springs, and lubing the pins I have never had a clack issue since I was full OE brake setup.

No I didn't, the last pins were all gunky and so I figured they'd make less noise just being clean so no dirt/brake dust stuck to them. I was thinking about grabbing a can of CRC brakleen and trying to get some of the built up stuff off the inside of the calipers, what do you think?

Haha I'd rather hear the noises than 3 small children shrieking in my ear:D

I can still hear the noise even with the radio fairly high, but now that I'm pretty sure it's the brakes it doesn't bother me so much.

I have an 06 DCSB with the same noise... a clunky rattle when I go over rough portions of the road... I have also changed a bunch of crap in the front end but you have changed more... based on what you have found (or not found) I'm thinkin it may be body mount related something... I had a '13 access cab a while back that had a noise that no one could find... finally took it to a body shop and told them to keep it until they figured it out... $1,000 and two weeks later they went through and tightened all the body mounts and "other bolts they thought were too loose" and the noise was gone...
