Forget that gunky crap. If you lube the pins with antiseize the noise will NEVER come back. The pins require lubing otherwise the noise will be there, that's where you went wrong.

Well looks like I'm pulling the pins today. I have some antiseize, just need to grab brake cleaner.

nope not really... steering is solid... ride is good... put it on a rack and checked the ball joints and tie-rods for play but nothin seems out of the ordinary... replaced the sway bar linkages and bushings, new break pads and rotors and had the front end aligned about two weeks ago... still no change...
This is our 20th Toyota (3rd tacoma) in 22 years (between me, the wife and the off-spring)... we've put upwards of 300K on some (buy mostly used) and they all get their noises as they get miles on them... as long as things stay tight, no steering play and the breaks work, I don't get too worried about them... they are more of an annoyance...

Well I put the antiseize on the pins and it completely got rid of my brake pad slap. That being said, it didn't solve the issue. It sounds like the noise is coming from the passenger's side about a foot from the hub, towards the middle of the truck. I hear it on the driver's side if my window is down but I think that's just because I have that window open. If they're up that's where it seems to be.

Hey OP, I'd still check out the Brake drums for being possibly warped. If anything, you could cross it off the list of suspected problems.

How should I check them? Is there a tool I can use? Being that the noise comes from in front of the cab and there's no pulsating brake pedal feel I doubt they are though. Also, I hardly ever brake hard because I have a manual transmission so I always downshift to take the majority of my speed off on the freeway. I'll definitely check though.

To make it easier on you, take it to your trusted mechanic with a lift. That way, you can take a real good look at anything else that might be suspect.

If you have an issue by the hub you may want to consider checking your wheel bearings. They tend to manifest all sorts of odd sounds or sensations when they are bad, also check your tie rods. It's a quick check and it may solve your issue. Hopefully. Fingers crossed.

Inspect your lower control arm bolts also, and your ball joints, Make sure they are tight, and that the ball joints have zero play.

I've replaced everything that moves but the CVs and the wheel bearings at this point, inner/outer tie rods included. No noise from the wheel bearings, and I already checked the LCA bolts. I torqued all the ball joints twice myself when I installed all the new stuff. It seems like the sound might be coming from further towards the middle to me. Not sure what else it could be in there though. The sound seems to be favoring the passenger side just in front of the firewall...

I really think you need to take a video of it now. It sounds like it could be your wheel bearings.

Ok, I'll have to do it once my brother is done using his go pro for his wedding videography. Or maybe I can try the Velcro on the phone trick but I don't want it falling off.

Did you ever solve the noise issue? If not, have you checked your Radiator Body Mount bushings?

No I haven't solved it yet. And yeah, I swapped them out for the Energy bushings.

I have a similar noise I heard a rumour that it could be that the rotors are clicking back and forth against the wheel studs. You wouldn't think that would be possible but apparently that's what the noise is.not sure how you would fix that other than changing everything out and would that actually solve the problem.???

I don't think that's my problem in this case... The rotors are stuck on there with some rust so it doesn't look like they've been moving, but I could always try taking the calipers off and break the rotors loose, and reassemble them. Thanks for the suggestion!

I had a clicking clacking noise after I removed my spare tire. It sounded like it came from the front wheels. But it was my chains hitting against the bottom of my truck and it echoed to the front. I thot it was my brakes or axle after my lift. Drove me crazy for a bit. Zip tied the chain to the frame and I don't have any clicking noise anymore lol

had a mechanic get underneath there and after my alignment was done they left some bolts loose the control arms weren't tight they found a total of four bolts that were not tight enough once that was addressed the clicking and clacking as all but stopped as well tied the chain off on the spare tire truck is very quiet now.

Yeah I've checked every bolt on my suspension, they're all tight. I still have a spare tire so it's not that either. Thanks for the suggestions though, and glad you got your truck figured out!
