does your survey consider alcohol and tobacco "recreational drug use?" or is it still talking about the illegal stuff?

Good for you. And you're right there's some discrepancy. While a few questions ask specifically about illicit drugs, the rest of it basically depends on the situation. Example: You might not think alcohol is a drug, but if you've gotten a DUI then you'd answer YES to the question about drug-related crimes.

Sweet dude. Same here. Let's party.

Funny story - a cop friend of mine arrested a guy the other day for possession. When talking about what he uses, the guy remarked that he does "opiates." Asked him to be more specific... he says it's a dark brown color and comes in little balloons. My friend says, "Yeah, that's heroin." Guy replies, "Really? I had no idea. I didn't know I was using heroin." Wow.

    See above. And thanks.

    Thanks!

I'd say it depends on the circumstances. I don't know many people who use dip to get high, so I wouldn't say it's a drug in that context.

But when you get to the questions regarding drug use and health, you've got to consider things like oral cancer. In that light it certainly seems like dip is a drug.

I'm sure there are plenty of educated drug users, but this guy wasn't one of them. He was mixing all kinds of ridiculous stuff, lighting it, and smoking it without any concern for what the effects of mixing might be. Doesn't seem like the brightest bulb to me.

Besides, he had no incentive to lie. The guy was going down for a host of drug charges. Go on a ride along with a cop once or twice... you wouldn't believe the extreme stupidity they encounter every day.
