I need to get my spare tire out but when I bought the truck it didn't come with the little jack or the handle that would normally be used to get the tire out... So any suggestions? What does the factory handle look like ?

Back to square one after the 2001. So...
It is a two-piece shaft that goes together with a tumb screw. It has a crank handle (just a bend, really) at one end and a sort of hook at the other end that engages the cable winch under the bed.

Hmm, probably better if someone can post a picture of it...if I get motivated enough today, maybe I will, if no on else has a pic handy.

You can use a long large flathead screwdriver.

If you have another friend with a pick-up, maybe borrow theirs. Even if it's not a Tacoma, you might get lucky. I'm pretty sure some other brands use similar systems. The end of the shaft is like a shepard's cane. A long screwdriver would work if you can find one big enough (I doubt you will).

Me too, tpms came in handy. I knew one was going down before feeling a thing probably saved me from some sidewall damage on my brand new tires.
