I would check your inner tie rod boots to see if the fluid is going in there.

 

Timing cover leak is significantly more expensive, just sayin'... Might even be an engine-out operation depending on the shop.

 

I actually had one go bad on my 1st Gen Tacoma, which was a fairly common issue. It functioned fine but slings fluid from behind the pulley and makes a mess on the underside of the hood. Of the 4 Tacoma's l have owned that was basically the only thing l ever had go wrong outside of minor stuff, so no complaints.
