Normally around each time the 5K interval is reached where oil needs to be changed, a "Maint Req" light comes up on the dashboard, that can be reset with a combination of turnign the ignition key and pressing the odometer button as outlined here.

This time it's different. I changed the oil at 5,000 miles, before the "Maint Reqd" light came on. So no light is on on the dashboard. Yet my new oil interval starts now.

Is there a procedure to inform the chip that keeps track of oil change intervals that the oil was changed?

whenever you reset it, it starts the countdown over

regardless of whether the light was on or not
