Okay, I'm thinking seriously about upgrading the stock steel wheels on my PreRunner. Lots of folks have TRD and other factory aluminum wheels for sale at pretty good prices. I've done a lot of reading on this forum and a lot of people say that the TPMS from the stock steel wheels won't work on the aluminum wheels, but guys at both Discount Tire and a local Goodyear store say they've never had an issue with it. Anyone with personal experience in the matter?

My stock TPMS sensors from my stock Off Road wheels fit in my aftermarket wheels no problem.

    Discount tire swapped em' over.

I've read that steel tpms won't work on aluminum wheels. I haven't personally had experience with it, but I had had my stock aluminum tpms switched to after market wheels.

Yeah, but I'm trying to go from the stock steel wheels to the the sport wheels. Thanks for the input.

The stock steel wheels & alloys use 2 different angle degrees 20 & 40. I have heard some turning the sensor a certain way when mounting in the alloy wheels. There is also a band kit, wheel barrow tire, pipe bomb. I had stock steelies on my 06. Maybe the tire shop has some trick rebuild kit or a procedure to make them fit but the fact is the design is different by 20 degrees against the inner wheel. Good luck with your swap.
