Greetings Kentucky TW crew. I live way up in northern Wisconsin and I am a regular participant in the TW Midwest forum Wisconsin group. Every year I try and take a week plus trip during Spring Break (Late March early April.) This year I drug some TW members through Arkansas for 9 days. Last year a group of us went out to Moab. These trips are generally overland style using dispersed camp sites; although, Moab we used the same site for the whole week. I had a trip mapped out for Kentucky a few years back but circumstances got in the way and I did not go. Thinking next year would be a good year to go explore KY. So... planning to start the trip at Wildcat Offroad park (this was GREAT for our trip this year. Started at SMORR and got everyone warmed up...) and work our way around the DBBB. Not sure we have enough with this, so looking for suggestions. Is the RedBird Crest Trail only bikes? Are there some favorite FS trails that I should know about? Any help with trail suggestions, maps (I use Gaia) etc. would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Pat

I haven't been to Wildcat offroad park yet but I went to Rush offroad in eastern part of KY. It is huge park I have ever seen. Rush has few types of trails, I mean from easy to extreme.

If you go to Rush, make sure to go with group in case you get stuck on the trail. Never go alone unless you have winch and stuff to get yourself out on your own.

    Their site is at https://rushoffroad.com

About RedBird Crest Trail you asked, I haven't been there either.. So according on their website, they allow OHV types of vehicles such as ATV, motorcycle, etc. Not sure about 4x4 trucks, you have to contact them and ask.

the DBBB was just updated with an additional 100+ mile loop. HollerWood is a convenient offroad park to the DBBB as well, probably you could hit both rush and hollerwood with a day or two each.

just call the KYFS about RedBird Crest, they will tell you open/close status, lots of FS roads get opened or closed for different vehicles depending on season.

Who to contact about map of the route? I recall struggling to find this during my initial research and a quick look shows mostly old links.

    and if you meant DBBB:
    https://www.ridethedbbb.org/map

honestly tho the Avenza/Carto swtup is much more annoying than other apps, so I usually plot the course in another app when I go out on a new section the first time.

I use Gaia and should have some of the sections mapped, I don't have any of the latest updates mapped though. Haven't had time to wheel like I use to.
