Need Trim Level (and maybe eveything) Education

Will be a first time Tacoma buyer with 2016. Know I want a double cab for carrying wife and friends. Know I want 4X4 because who wouldn't. (Also travel steep dirt roads with hills on weekends so need it there and want it when weather surprises us in the city.) Wondering about short or long bed. Would love space of long bed but spend M-F in city so worry some about added length when parking, turning, etc. But my main question has to do with trim levels.

Edmunds review says, "There will be five trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road and Limited. The SR is a basic work truck, while SR5 adds minor interior and exterior enhancements for a more polished look. TRD models add suspension upgrades and more all-terrain ability, while the Limited is the fully loaded model."

The progression of these trim levels described in Edmunds make sense until "Limited." I get the "fully loaded" as it relates to creature comforts of cab. What does that mean for suspension and other off-road enhancements I'm assuming you get with the TRD Sport and Off-Road.

    Thanks.

You know these aren't out yet, right? There's no answer for your question as far as I know, the only real info so far is the leaked prices which haven't even been officially released.

One idea would be to hit up a lot and look at the 15's in all the packages.

While the 16's will have some differences, they'll be close enough that you'll get a good feel for what to expect.

What features are important to you? Leather seats, push button start, moon roof, locking differential, blind spot monitoring, navigation?

The limited will not have the suspensions of the TRD models, if the TRD models have different suspensions to begin with

Taking Clearwater Bill's advice and heading to a dealer this afternoon. To answer the question above, I'm definitely interested in the bells and whistles that come with the Limited trim. Getting older and like my creature comforts and I've been buying used, less expensive cars all my life. Time to go for it. Not worried about the "more to break" argument as I trust Toyota's dependapility. The mystery to me is what a Limited means when it comes to everything else about the truck. But it sounds like nobody knows yet.

I do not like the Limited Tacoma because you are grossly over paying for what you get.
At least thats how I see it after owning two full loaded F250's in my life (used). They are far fancier than the "loaded" Tacoma. I think its bull shit a limited Tacoma doesn't come with power seats, power rear window, compass, rear heated window etc. it's a $40K+ truck people!

IMO a fully loaded Tacoma is a TRD pro. The Limited are just waisted money. The mods to do it yourself are cheaper than upgrading the trim. This is untrue of the Sport and Off Road which I would go for first.

    Just my opinion.
The Tacoma is not as high class as Toyotas other vehicles.

TRD OR with tech package will work well for you.

I think most people understand that when you buy a Toyota you'll be sacrificing some gadgets in exchange for better quality vs. the other brands.

Not true. Look at nearly all the othe Toyota models. The Camry, Highlander, 4 Runner, Sequoia, Tundra, and Avalon. All have incredibly fancy options
    At higher trims.
The Tacoma seems to be the one model Toyota sacrifices gadgets on AND it still maintains a high price tag. It isn't insane high but I think a few grand over for what you actually get.
I think the $26k Prius gets power seats.

Those gadets are cheap for Toyota to put in. They just don't add them.

Had a great test drive with a DCLB TRD. That may be the way to go.

You'd have manual seats for the access cab trucks to allow the seats to quickly flip forward and then power seats for the double cab. Now you've doubled the configurations of seats to be designed and verified.

Power seats were added to a middle trim of the Prius due to feedback from buyers. A lot of older buyers found the manual seats very uncomfortable. I thought the manual seats were fine in my top trim Prius v Five with advanced tech package.

Anyway, the Tacoma buyer skews toward KISS. There is another thread in this very forum where someone is complaining that they can't get crank windows.

You still have to build two seperate seats for the access and double cab anyways because I don't think the same seats are shared.

    Same seats in both.

No need to quickly flip the fronts in an AC we have back doors.

It was a Sport. The truck was great but the salesman was horrible. I'd ask him a question and he'd look in his little book for the answer. Really didn't help at all. But he did get me a copy of the brochure for the 15 which lined out the various trim levels. I've got to track down a better place to buy.

I already know everything about each trim line for the Tacoma. When the go into the dealerships to talk to the salesmen, I ask them questions to see if they know things. About half confirm that the 15 Off Road comes in a long bed when I prompt the question....

Only one salesman knew every question correctly. He was the first and only to tell me the 16 would be all new. This was 4 months ago. He said to look online for info. Elway Toyota
