I have 19 4runner SR5 with stock wheels and tires.

I’m looking to get stealth custom series BR6 wheels (17x8.5) with a -10 offset. One shop told me that a 265/70 wheel would not fit properly because it’s not wide enough for that wheel. Can anyone confirm or deny? They said it might fit but it wouldn’t look totally right.

the problem is that if I go with a bigger tire then it will require a lift, which would be great but just more money.

265's look fine on 8.5" wide, as long as its an LT tire, a standard load tire will look more car like and ballooned to fit.

I'd run 275/70/17, lots of websites show they fit on stock lift.

I ran 275/70r17 on my stock 5th gen with zero rub with heavy off roading. I didn't have aftermarket wheels but did put on spacers and experienced rub with those.

yeah, I think the stock wheels are a +15 or +17 offset and the Wheels I’m looking at getting are both wider and -10 offset, so I’m guessing it will rub.

Can someone explain what what exactly it means to have the tire “balloon”? Would love to see an example.

It’s basically a 31x10.50. Size wise your fine. The 8.5 width and -10 offset is where the issue may arise from.
