If you look at the first pictures you can see where the rub marks are.

As you've already seen, that's straight garbage. How a welder thinks that is ok absolutely blows my mind. And to charge $350?!?! Fuuuuck no.

Even though we can't see it, it's still better than OP's chop...

EDIT: Pic fixed, my original comment stands.

To be fair, with enough grinding and painting almost any weld can look good. Doesn't mean they had proper penetration for a strength weld.

Not questioning the one you posted, just mentioning that a bad welder can doctor up a lot with a grinder.

That's sorta my point though. If someone is that bad of a worker they can't even be bothered to clean it up and make it look nice, then you really know it's garbage.

Also this steel is only 1/8" thick. If someone can't get proper penetration with that then they really have no business welding.

you don’t necessarily need to have clean welds for a CMC. it’s not structural. A lot of guys don’t even re-plate after cutting. I don’t advise this method but I’ve seen the argument before.

agreed. Not only on the welding part but if you are someone who offers a paid service and that’s the finished product!? Garbage.

and people pay $350 for a CMC?!

I’m sorry OP, there a plenty of members who can provide much better work in your area than 4WP. I know that doesn’t help much now.

there was a ton of mud and shit caked up in mine when I cut the front face off. I’m going to leave mine open, seems as though debris gets trapped in there and can cause rust issues later down the road. Eventually I’ll do a relocate, so I’m not concerned about mine being left cut open.

I did mine... Looks like the pinch seam has not yet been flattened... and they were afraid of working "underneath" the overhang, that is the pinch seam and trim... so they left it kicked out... easy fix... cut it flush to follow the cut... weld on a 10g pice of flat stock... boom, done... to answer the question... nah, it could have been done better...
