I could very well be wrong. But if it is not leaking, and you go in for the recall, and they tighten the bolts. If later on it does start leaking due to a faulty seal, then clearly Toyota would have on file they only tightened the bolts, and did not take it to the level of replacing the gasket during the original warranty work. Generally when something is repaired under warranty, that warranty work is warrantied itself. Again, I very well could be wrong here, just trying to think it through.

I would assume that as well, but I try not to assume anything.

Well, if you trust your dealership, then you may be fine, but I would never assume anything w/ a dealership as they are watching out for themselves and not you.

With all the photos of ORs with major seepage I wonder why they are not on the list? Seems strange.

Seeing all these pictures of the OR trucks w/ the issue (and not on the recall list) is making me wonder if it's not an issue across the board really. Is it the bolt torque or maybe a crappy gasket? Warping of the cover and/or diff case? If there are this many folks having this issue, it could be more than just bolts not getting torqued correctly. And yes, I do understand that we on this forum are not the total population of trucks out there.

The speculation is that it's the heat treat on the studs allowing them to stretch.

That would make sense... so, just torquing them more really isn't helping, it's probably only going to leak again.

I was told by service, it's a check, if nothing needs to be replaced
you'll be sent on your way.

Is there a gasket in there? Thought I read that the guy that had his
gears swapped found that there was no gasket.

In addition to this, if you have the Toyota Owners App on your phone and registered your vehicle with it, the Safety Recall page will automatically show any recalls that affect your vehicle.

with 250k in the recall, it would seem every 3rd gen made would be on the list.

It would have been replaced because it was leaking, the recall calls for a new gasket and hardware and a check of internals if a leak is found. He had a leak and all that should be done still. Just because they changed the gasket and did nothing else doesn't mean hes in the clear, he only got 1/3 of what is required. And there is a gasket, shows it in the FSM
