Needle bearing catastrophic failure?

    Secondary air filter removal, K&N drop in, Removed front mud flaps, Toyota all weather matts, skid plate, bug guard. Bilstein 5100's all around fronts set at 2.5", OME add a leaf, Goodyear Wrangler Authority 265/70/17, stubby 6.5" antenna, smoked tail lights, blacked out badges.
    Simple question. Has anyone heard of there being a catastrophic failure of the front differential needle bearing in the Second gen Toyota Tacoma. I looked through the vibe thread and couldn't find anything. I'll admit though I wasn't up to looking at all 185 pages...... I'm going to be doing the ECGS bushing fix next weekend and was just curious about how serious of a problem it is. I have yet to hear anything about a damaged diff or even a cv. The vibes and sound are annoying as all hell though.

    Yes, not necessarily a Tacoma, but solid roller lifters love to come apart(they use needle bearings) and destroy big block and small block chevys

    I think he's specifically refering to the needle bearing used in the Tacoma front diff arrangement

    I am sure its happened, but remember they really only have load on them when your in 4wd. What 75 z28 says is true I have a 1998 corvette and the roller rocker arms failing is common...happy 4th

    I appreciate your comment, but unfortunately that is a completely different vehicle and manufacturer. For as many people who have changed out the differential needle bearing, I'm surprised that nobody has a horror story yet. Specific to the second gen Tacoma of course. Post edited again to be even more specific.

    My bearing had the hum for about 12K miles after my lift. When I had the bushing put in, my mech showed me the needle bearing and it looked brand new.

    Lifted and non lifted trucks develop this problem.

    Still nothing? I'm beginning to think this is just an annoyance rather than a necessary fix.

    Bilstein 4600 shocks.
    While not 'catastophic', what you state in your OP would qualify replacing the needle bearing as necessary in my book.
