So my truck's humming is getting pretty bad and after reading the posts here I'm pretty sure the needle bearing needs to be replaced. The driver's side CV has some play also, not sure if that's normal or not. My question is if I should even bother with the dealer, truck is under warranty but even if they take responsibility might just replace the needle bearing which solves nothing. Wanted to check here if someone recommends a shop that can do the job here in AZ. I have no experience working with suspension and don't want to mess it up, I'm in the Phoenix area any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Same as the gen2s and let the dealer look at it as hard to believe that bearing is bad on a 21. That drivers side CV on all Tacomas is a sloppy mess but I did not change to the ECGS bushing until 185,000 miles when it was CV axle time. The bushing did smooth it out alittle or maybe the new CVs. Humming could be many things based on how you use/abuse it and mileage.

Since you're not lifted, I highly doubt the bearing is bad. Probably the rear dif humming. Take it to the dealer

I lifted it about 6 months ago with the Westcott lift. The humming started a week after the lift

Hard to believe for me too but the symptoms are exactly the same as described here and on YouTube. I'll have the dealer take a look anyways see what they say, thanks.

Ok, you didn't mention you were lifted and you profile says Stock so ECGS bearing might be a possible solution.

Does switching on the 4WD make the hum go away?
[If yes, it is likely the needle bearing, if no - next]

My 2nd gen is lifted and it had a hum, only when it was cold out between 30-40 mph, @ 61K - I live near ECGS so I just had them R/R the part and do the CV boot/front diff fluid.
    Solved my hum issue.

Dealer will see the lift and say that's the problem. The poster here probably thought what I thought

If you have a good relationship with the dealer/service dept - maybe you can buy the ECGS needle bearing and just have them do/cover the labour under warranty - it is not an unreasonable ask.

I'm sorry but the dealer isn't going to do that. Definitely not a warranty issue.

Get the ECGS needle bearing and convince the dealer to do the work [for free/under warranty] - as long as you remotely trust them.

ECGS charged me 150$ to do the bearing/boot/diff fluid - for reference..

My local shop looked up the labour and wanted to charge me like 500$ - said some nonsense about pulling the diff/blah/blah/blah - they are good but were unfamiliar with the issue/repair procedure, which made my decision simple.
