Are you indicating that the bearing collar broke INSIDE the differential? If so, where did the broken metal piece go?

I've read that it wont work but I haven't tried it. I would be curious to know what toyota actually uses when they replace the needle bearing. I doubt they have the ECGS tool.

Is the ECGS part/kit the best? Any others to consider?

Hi guys! Seems like the best place to post the following.

I just now placed an order for the ecgs bushing, and CV axle seal-just in case. Would anyone be willing to lend me the bushing removal tool, bushing install tool, and possibly the axle seal install tool? Of course I will pay shipping both ways. I'm here near Tampa, FL.

Opportunity to bring up a conversation my neighbor and I were having (he has a Pro). We were wondering whether needle bearing issues are prevalent in the Pro since it’s “lifted” versus stock. And how about Tacos with the OEM lift kit installed? He was dismissive. I, with my immediate vibes after a 2” lift, was curious. You never read about either thing on TW though.

That's what the needle bearing looks like after they are pulled out. The outer race breaks off.

Mine didn’t look like that. Why would that portion break during removal, isn’t that the part that faces outboard (ie no contact with pulling tool)? I’ve seen lots of pictures of pulled needle bearings and this is the first like this.

I had 5100s installed about 3 weeks ago and felt the vibrations this past week. Couple of questions, if someone with previous experience could provide some insight would be greatly appreciated.
    1. How long before this causes a mechanical issue or a bigger issue?
    2. I have an offroad trip planned in a week or so and I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to take the truck off road with this issue, am I right to be worried? Read does not affect it when in 4wd
    3. Anyone in the Phoenix area that does this repair/replacement? I don't have the tools and expertise.
Sorry for the long post but I heard and felt the rubbing sounding noise and I'm worried it would be a big deal if not taken care of right away, thank you.

It seems like most of the broken ones get damaged driving the ECGS removal tool in place behind the needle bearing. Mine came out undamaged, but hopefully everyone who had a piece of theirs break off shoved a rag or shop towel in first before beating the removal tool in place. Chunks of metal in your diff is never good.

Even at 1.5" I was getting a pretty noticeable vibration before I installed the new bushing. Wish I had installed this a year ago.
