What he's talking about are Yakima towers (or feet).

Normally they are mounted like this, a soft foot on the bottom sits on the roof and a clip goes under your rain gutter.

But you can replace the foot with a piece that bolts directly to the roof if it's thick enough, such as is the case with a fiberglass topper. On a car roof the sheet metal is too thin and the bolts would pull through.

The name Yakima gave them I think is Landing Pads.

Are you sure they are Q Towers @danielsthomas57? I still have I think four Q Towers if you're thinking about putting a cross bar back on, but I'll have to look.

im going to get on the roof today and see if i can find any part numbers. I will follow up. Are you saying you can take the soft feet off and clip it to the landing pad?

    You don't want Q-Towers, Q-Towers aren't for mounting to a shell.

I understood that the Landing Pads replaced the lower half of a Q Tower and made them into Control Towers. But that is speculation on my part.

Q-Towers use clips that hold to the roof. No way to use the clips on a topper.

^^^ Correct - You want control towers - like the ones shown in post #30 above.
