Has anyone here had one? I was at my cousins friends house the other day and he was showing us some of his guns and then came across a glock19 he had sitting on the top shelf of his safe, he aims it a picture pulls pulls the trigger and it fired he had no idea there was a round in the chamber. I'm still somewhat shook up about it and thankful noone was hurt. but blame him for obviously not being 120% positive nothing was in the chamber. So it got me thinking if this has happened to anyone else, the only other times i have seen ND is a weapon malfunction at the range (still pointed down range).

I haven't, but a friend once demonstrated that his newly purchased handgun was unloaded by pointing it at a workbench and pulling the trigger. I will no longer be in the room with him when he is handling guns. Didn't even occur to me until later, but what if there was a dud round in there and it went off later when his brother was handling the gun? Nobody actually opened the chamber after he had "cleared" it. Worked out okay, but could have been bad. His garage workbench is on an exterior wall, right next to the front walkway.

NO he is just stupid. You always check for a round in the chamber before squeezing the trigger. there is no room for error when handling a firearm. I would not hang out with him for a while after that. Dumb Fucking shit can get people killed.

He shouldnt own much less have access to firearms. Irresponsible

sorry, for being a dick. But in all seriousness if you did that when i was in the army you never went out with us on missions. ever. trust is gone at that point.

I'm sure at least one member has been involved in one! Unfortunate and preventable as they are it's scary that people are that careless.

OP, no offense to you, ...but your "friend" is a major %#%@!, and adds fuel to the anti's claims that gunowners are dangerous/irresponsible/etc... please do us a favor and teach him the importance of "the four rules"...

Never had an ND. I have 3 friends that have had them. ND's exhibit extreme lack of responsibility and training.

    EVERY SINGLE ND IS PREVENTABLE.

Follow the rules, play safe, double triple check that shit. If you just checked it and you have a doubt, fucking check it again. Have a buddy check it.

Yup... but nobody is going to admit to it.

But you can always figure out who they are. Just look for the comments like "There are two kinds of gun owners, those who've had an AD and those who will have an AD"

Kinda like people who can't ride worth a shit saying there are two kinds of motorcyclists....

With the gun owner, the first hint is they refer to it as an AD. I commend you for using the proper term.

no by all means, ive hung out with the guy but not too often, he's always seemed be pretty responsible though up until this point and i couldnt agree more, it literally blew my mind, last thing in the world i was expecting, the round went through 4 layers of drywall bounced of the last wall before going outside and landed in the bathtub. I was pretty pissed about it and made a relatively big deal about it. My cousin and I seem relatively eye to eye on most things, he was upset about it too, and with it being his friend is having a harder time making a rational choice about weather or not to hang around the guy being that he has his ccw, < which is scary as shit > idk hopefully he takes something good out of this and realizes its really not a game

this is true, i really wish i stayed longer and had a more rational talk with him. He shot and after a small amount of screaming he apologized, and i just repeatadly asked him wtf was he doing or he could of killed someone

Oh shit you are in VA? You can report that shit if you really feel that he shouldnt have it. VA is a shall issue state(and shall take away). It is very easy to get a CCW here (and very easy to lose it). The state or local police will pull his shit.

You being in the service you dont need to hang out with that irisponsible fuck.

unfortunately it happens all the time. all it takes is a little mistkae and you could blow someone away completely unintentionally. pretty fucked up, but some people are just careless, and would forget their head if it wasnt attached to them. i have never had one, but have heard about people i know having them. one guy with a fucking department issued assault rifle, one guy with a dept issued shot-gun, and another guy with a fucking taser. if i were you OP, i would have made a huge deal, to the point of getting my shit and leaving after screaming at him.

I've seen that vid tons of times...and just now, it looked fake to me. The mag is out, the chamber is open, he has it tipped barrel up so the round woulda fallen out. So.....wtf happened?

yea your absoblutly right, ive seriously thought about it and havent made up my mind yet, the way he acted that event was very irresponsible with not checking the chamber and especially having his finger on the trigger. I dont know if i feel that this one event is enough for me to classify him as irresponsible, or if it was he was excited and mistakes do happen, some obviously on different levels than others. I already know my cousin who was hanging out with him regularly and knows him a lot better than i do, is for the most part putting it off as a mistake and is kind of letting it go

there was still a round in the chamber. he was aiming it right at his leg when it went off. he cocked the hammer forward before he shot himself, never saw him tip the gun upside down to let the bullet fall out.... it was clearly still in there. guys an idiot.

Agreed, but for civilians, it's pretty much a non-issue. A gun owner should be aware of the risk (and we come back to it being an ND outside of life-or-death/combat situations).

I love his comment, "I'm the only one in this room professional enough that I know of to handle this Glock 40." BOOM!!

And then he goes and gets another gun...

Well, Its your ass if you hang with him and something happens. Not I, I wouldnt hang with that kid even if he didnt have a firearm. CHECK THE WEAPON. ALWAYS TREAT IT AS IF IT IS LOADED.

Words that have stayed with me since I was 14 and first held a firearm
