Hi everyone - recently became a new owner of a DC and need some help/recommendation for nerf bar/side steps.

I am looking for 3" round tube that sits snug right under the door and doesn't stick out far (more-so cosmetic instead of function), been having trouble finding one myself, but keep seeing tacomas drive by and photos with bars that seem to fit snug to the body.

I bought one set that I took back already, the steps hung way too low from the body and made the truck look kind of like a low-rider.

Does anyone have any bars or know of any that fit the truck this way?

If you want steps that look more rugged, the 3" wheel to wheel nerf bars that N-Fab makes are nice. I used to have them. Look in the first post of my build thread in my signature to see a picture of them. I'm sure there is one in there.

I think what you are talking about though is rock sliders. Look for those instead of nerf bars and you should find some on here.

I have been looking at the nfabs also and like the look, just keep going back/forth between nfabs and a more traditional 3" stainless round bar.

Think about the future of your truck. Do you see it becoming an off road vehicle or do you just want a daily driver. If you plan to offroad, I would just go with sliders. I should have the first time but got the nerf bars instead. I regretted it because I lost clearance. I want my rig to be an expo rig though so it makes sense for me.

If you are just getting a daily driver, get whatever steps you think look the nicest on your truck. Most will do their job.

Welcome to TW by the way. Post some pics of the new truck.

The Toyota factory chrome nerf bars are the ones that fit up snug. The aftermarket ones all hang a little lower than factory ones

Sixthsnail - thank you, will definitely post some pics once I can get some decent shots. All stock prerunner right now (gray) with the exception of the duratracs I just had discount put on.

gottaToy - I've seen the oem step bars at the dealership, they fit exactly snug the way I like but just seemed extremely wide - look like 6" oval step bars. Love the way they look on the tundras, just seem too big imho for the tacoma body.

Thank you both for the help, I'm going to flag down the next tacoma on the road I see with the snug stainless bars lol.

Take a look at he N-Fab Rock Rails. They're only 2", but set nice and tight under the rocker panels. You can get them without the bolt on steps if you don't like the look.
