Coffee. Anything else is just overpriced caffeine anyway. 99% of the effect of pre-workout is from the caffeine.

If it has creatine in it and a lot of niacin, that also adds to the energy aspect. Not all do though. Creatine in small amounts encourages blood flow, same with niacin. Although too much creatine will cause bloat over time.
All that shit together though mixed with a bunch of caffeine can't be good for you on a regular basis. I used to use pre-workout regularly but started getting concerned about the long term effects, so I just switched to caffeine pills. Just straight caffeine so I know exactly what I'm getting, works just about the same and way cheaper.

Preworkouts are primarily caffeine to boost your hype however, they’re not good for your heart. Dont worry about pre-workout, worry about recovery. You can also drink some aminos during your workout.

I'm sure it's fine then, people do worse things on a regular basis like drink themselves to sleep every night lol.

It's ridiculously easy to build a tolerance to pre-workouts and all the stuff that's in them, so keeping it to 2 -3 times a week max is recommended. But a lot of times people that use stuff like that get hooked on the energy boost and overdo it over time.

True, but most pre-workouts that have creatine in them don't have a significant amount. You're better off just taking creatine by itself, and drinking coffee or taking a caffeine pill before your workouts.

Creatine is pretty much the only supplement that has any real effect on strength gains.

Yeah I think protein before and/or after a workout is the beast way to see gains, creatine is good for energy but in high amounts it makes your muscles retain water, so you look bigger but in reality it's not actual muscle.

    True about the creatine.

protein timing isn't so important. Simply getting enough protein is 99% of the equation.

The research says .6-.8 grams of protein per pound of body weight is the best amount. that range showed the most strength and mass gains with training. less than that was insufficient, more than that didn't correlate with proportional strength. Seems above .8 g/lb is basically diminishing returns, and you're better off using those calories on carbs and fats for maintaining better nutrition and energy levels.

yeah it works for me because I don't eat all that much, have had stomach issues for the past several years which has trained me to not eat all that much, for better or worse. Protein shakes really help me build and keep my muscle mass in that regard, but someone that gets it through a healthy diet then that's ideal, yeah

yea, whey powder is basically the cheapest way to get a lot of protein. I drink a shake in the morning, just milk and 1.5 scoops, to get about 50g right off the bat to start the day.
