Boy, am I glad you're here. New member, three threads, all oil related with no backup other than 'I'.

We needed another Chicken Little here in the coup.

Finally, case closed on the ages old OCI question. Whew, what an epic journey.

Mods you can delete all future such threads, they’re no longer necessary.

I left my drain plug out and just pour fresh oil in the filler neck as I drive down the interstate.

based on professional experience, I change oil every 3-5k.

for others, I prefer they change their oil at 10k
so I get paid to fix the problems that causes

goes hand in hand with neglectful OCI practice:
    -oil pressures issues, engine replace
    -timing chain issues
    -piston ring issues
    etc.
    All good jobs

I will say this, the drive to go to 10k OCI’s is not engineering based. It is absolutely marketing based. There is a huge incentive to make maintenance cost appear as least expensive as possible. The reality is most working on these vehicles, who see many engines day in and day out do NOT recommend extended OCI’s including the cars care nut tech many reference here.

Now if you are using Amsoil or other higher grade oils with lots of ZDDP packages and actually do a UOA to see how your specific driving habits / oil of choice is holding up, this is much more informative. The problem is the average consumer is not an enthusiast and likely chooses the cheapest option, which equals lower quality consistently.

So yeah, the op is a mobile mechanic whose target audience are not known for understanding these principles. Shitty oil combined with fuel dilution / long OCI’s I’m sure does equal oil consumption. If you think oil type does not matter for long OCI’s you very uninformed. So give the guy a break and don’t roast him for what he probably sees quite often, it’s actually quite pathetic and turns people off these forums. If you disagree, state the reason why but don’t be f’in douche bags, for the sake of being a douche.

At what point will engines be built poorly enough that a 10K vs 5K make little to no difference?
I mean, we all ready have some manufacturers running the oil pumps off an internal wet belt. Yes, a belt. And again, it’s internal to the engine.

Point being, these OCI threads might be a thing of the past pretty soon.
And I’m not complaining about that…..

the Taco, and last car, if I am running 0w40 or 5w30 doesn’t matter, no oil is burned.

the piston rings are either neglected and beat (oil consumption) or they’re not.

I would ask what did they do to the Tacoma and most of the Toyotas that changed the OC interval from 6K to 10K? Serious question? If it was a engineering change? I'm pretty sure that would show up as one of the new "improvements" when the models came out if they actually did something to increase the interval. I may have missed it but I've not seen anything mentioned. Chevy did the something similar, moved the number out on some of their models w/o any changes to the motor. To me it's apparent it was a marketing move that doesn't won't affect Toyota's warranty because it's out by the time OC intervals would cause an issue, on top of that it stinks a little of planned obsolescence to me. Toyota doesn't make allot of money if everyone drives their Toyota's for 10+ years and since most don't keep them that long it's not killing the buyer's perception of product quality. They have everything to gain and little to loose by moving out to 10K. As an added benefit the long termers might be replacing their Toyotas before they rust out 15 years from now. My Colorado work truck had a 10K OC reminder. The fleet company would contact me if I ran it past 6K, when I asked them about it I was told based on their data 10K was too long of an interval for that vehicle. Chevy says 3-5K for dino and 7-10k for syn oil in the Colorado. The fleet company mandated synthetic and changes at 6K.

Lol you got three posts. Go to the high mileage thread and then check out the Blackstone labs oil analysis and tell me then why 10K OCI won't work. Everyone has their opinion, just like assholes.

Look, I'm not hardcore around here like lots of folks. I don't even necessarily disagree with what his proposed statements are. My problem is, since this isn't supposed to be a consipracy theory thread, when you use phrases such as "Proven fact", "Never go", and "It will" you kind of have to provide where you are getting this stance from. Nothing the OP posted delivers ANY of this criteria to his statements or my needs to be able to believe. Are there published Toyota studies? Published review studies from industry recognized entities?

"That is from a 43 year mechanic, that owns many Toyotas!" also only implies but doesn't even implicitely state that the mechanical duty was even on Toyotas, or cars. Where / what did he work on? Somebody on here that has 10K posts that are in depth and technically astute, I would lean towards believing more (of course would always like to see documentation heehee). Just dropping in with "3" posts and blasting this out seems... other manufacturer-y.

Plus, like everyone else always seems to imply a search on gaggle or here will list plenty of other oil threads to bitch into.
    "Minor douche level aquired"...
