Because an oil change is about the same cost as analysis. No question on the breakdown of the oil if it’s new.

Am I wrong to think that by the time an oil analysis comes back with out of tolerance readings or multiple analyses have shown a trend, it’s too late? Or at least, there is wear that has likely already reduced engine life?

Truth. On any oil, not just what you specified.

Without an occasional analysis (for those who intend to be be high mile owners) every other choice is pure speculation.

I'm not a tribologist. But I do know one. He has the ability to test every change for free, and finds it's easy to have healthy oil well beyond the 10k guideline.

You don't do an analysis every change.

Nope, you aren't wrong. But some people just need to know so they can point the finger someplace else when stuff goes wrong.
    (Probably won't be a popular answer/opinion)

Yes, of course but let’s say the analysts showed excessive metals. Short of a rebuild or new engine what would you do to make your engine last a little longer? You would change the oils more often to reduce those abrasive particles. So what harm is doing that anyway?

Well known YouTube auto guy shared a video of his friction test of 5 synthetic brands drained from autos after a years use and found not that much friction increase with their bench top friction contraption. Also, I add half a bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer each year at oil change.

I really just don't even understand why you guys bother with oil change intervals. If you'll just be responsible adults and check your oil every so often, you can just pop a fresh quart in every time its a quart low. With a steady leak out the timing cover and a fresh quart every thousand miles or so, you're basically getting 'by the book' intervals without every having to remove the drain plug! You don't even need a new filter because its just paper anyways!
