I didn't find a newbie area so I thought I'd post up here. Today I signed on a white 2012 DC 4wd Off Road w/77K miles. I have a '97 LX450 heavily modded that we've used for the last 4 years to travel & camp all across the USofA. I started reading info. on this site about a month ago, when my search for my Taco began, & have already learned a good bit. I pick the truck up Thursday & will post some pic's then. I'll also start a build/progress thread as I plan on modding this rig a fair amount.

Items to be ordered this weekend:
    Icon Stage 3 w/tubular UCA's

285/75r16 Toyo R/T tires if I keep the stock wheels or 285/70r17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers if I buy 17" wheels

A good front bumper for overlanding/mild rock crawling (it has an Iron Cross brand bumper now but it doesn't fit my needs so I'm going to sell it)

    A couple questions:
Any reason why I should NOT get the Icon Stage 3?

Is there a market for the 16" chrome factory wheels that are on it now? If so, what's a good selling price on them? (I'd prefer to step up to 17's but I can always just paint the 16's black)

I've looked @ a ton of bumpers & can't decide. I have an ARB on my LX450 & really like it but would like a little more approach angle clearance for rock crawling. Suggestions for a good plate bumper for overlanding AND rock crawling?

    Thanks y'all!!!

Welcome. Congrats on the new ride!

Check out pelfreybilt and @At The Helm for bumpers.

    Also SOS Concepts... @EddyRRT

I have icons and total chaos UCAs on my rig and I love it. They’re stiffer than king or fox - so be mindful of that.

as stated above go with @Pelfreybilt for all your armor needs, great company and customer service/people.

As for icons you can also look at getting the resi setup with click adjusters, which puts you at like stage 5 or 6 for the set but worth the extra couple hundred to dial it in on the fly.

    Welcome.

Before buying the Icons search here for 'Icon top hat' there is a design flaw and they are known to fail.

If you are going to be adding a bunch of weight you want to replace the rear leaf spring because the factory leaf packs are garbage (Icon stage 3 is just an AAL). Personally, I went with the Dakar leaf pack, fox coilovers/shocks (2.5 extended travel up front and 2.0 RR in the rear), and LR UCAs. This is a better setup IMO. I assume you are aware that the Icons are digressive shocks too so they are firm at low speeds.

285s on the stock rims are going to rub the UCA without spacers and you will need to do the cab mount chop as they will rub the frame (even with aftermarket wheels).

Sheesh. I read 3 pages & it doesn't look too good. Thanks!!!

I'll research the Icon top hat.
I'll be adding front/rear bumpers, sliders, dual batteries & maybe a topper/camper as well so a decent amount of weight. Plus I have an off road trailer I built that I'll be towing as well (tongue weight is only about 100lbs, though). I saw that Dakar leaf pack but $800 for 2 leaf springs seems absolutely ludicrous to me!
I know the Icons are digressive shocks, & I thought that's what I was looking for but maybe not. I don't do any fast baja type stuff & never plan to. I was under the impression the King's/Fox's were more for fast desert racing type stuff & Icon better for long road trips & rock crawling. I'll research that a bit more.
I do know I want extended travel non-resi front coil-overs, rear resi's, beefier rear leafs (not just a single AAL) & UCA's. It seems like Icon is the only ones making this exact set-up but I'll read more.
    Thanks!!

    Some
 skip icons and go with some kings or ADS coilovers and some deaver, Dakar, or all pro leaf springs. Send Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road a pm and she will set you straight and take care of any other questions you may have. As far as bumpers pelfreybuilt all the way or demello offroad

This is the kit I went with. Message Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road and she can help you dial it in for your needs and discuss whether a progressive or digressive shock is better for you.

If you have any questions on the Icon suspension shoot me a PM or e-mail. Or if you have time give us a call. We've been outfitting Toyota Tacoma's since 1999 and can give you the ins and outs of everything out there. We like Icon because of the ease of install and the overall function of the complete suspension system. We sell other brands as well, but Icon has been the leader for years.

I'm pretty good at welding but I don't have the means of doing any actual fabrication so I've been trying to find a company that sells kits I can weld myself. I see Relentless used to but they don't anymore. Any idea who does?
