Hey guys! New Tacoma owner checking in. Proud owner of a new ‘19 Taco TRD Off Road. I want to start building it out and I have $1500 to start with. What’s additions should I start with? I already have the All weather matts and oem bed matt.

One thing I’m particularly interested in is a bed cover x bed rail system. Any recommendations for compatible combinations is appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, get yourself so more aggressive tires if you are going off-road in mud.

The stock toyota all weather mats are crap. Look up weather techs. Theyre more "bucket" than "plate."

    My 2 cents...

Also, OVTune is worth its weight in gold.

I think the weakest overall item on a stock 3G Tacoma OR are the rear leaf springs and rear shocks. Any weight in the back on a rough road and you will be hitting your bump stops after your shocks fade out.

If I had to do it all again (for the few things I’ve done), I’d get new rear leafs, or an adaleaf, or air bags in the back first. Before even tires.

The stock Goodyear’s are actually very good, in everything but mud, despite what the overland bros might say. They just don’t look the part.

Good call! I added these to the rear springs but haven’t got new tires yet.

You could probably pick up a lightly used set of Pro fox shocks for about 1500, that would be a good upgrade.

J/K, just wanted to see the pro haters get revved up. What is your end goal? Overlander or rock crawler? That might help narrow things down. I’d say a good set of sliders might be something to look at.

    Congrats on the new truck.

Agreed, my brain hurts from trying to figure out the benefits over installing an extra leaf instead......it just looks heavier and noisier.....

Anyway, start with an OEM bedmat, non-OEM floor liners, and spend the rest on whatever blows your skirt up. Have fun.

Personally I think the whole suspension of the off road is weak. Rear leafs creaking on the trails, truck nose diving during breaking, and just a 1 inch lift.

First mod is definitely a OEM bed mat.

Don't waste your money on Weather Techs they're junk, they curl and shrink.

OEM or Husky all others make great round file material

I’ve never had an issue with weathertech but on my new to me 2g I went with husky bc of a group buy and I def like them better.

I’d tell op to check the group buy page. Usually a husky gb pops up every now and then.

I’ll also add weathertech window visors, the slot kind not the stick on. These are one of my favorite upgrades. Also idk if there’s a rear view mirror raiser mod for 3rd gen but that was invaluable.

I honestly wouldn’t fuck with the tires or suspension right off the bat until you get a feel for the truck and what direction you want to go with it. Or you might be throwing money away.

Did you purchase a Toyota tonneau cover?
In nw you can only get as a "port" installed option. Otherwise you hve to buy as parts.

An option is Tonneau Covers World an American HardtriFold part atc 76409 for $469. It is three hard panels on five foot bed.
Its a good value vs a much more expensive hard cover.
Have not uesd on bad bumpy road but in middle i added two bungie cords to bed rains for added stability.

No Tonneau may be worth the cost if you are into hard off roading given vibrations and flexibile to access your gear.

Do Weather Tech... they are boss.

Put a hose clamp on your right side tailgate hinge then cover with taoe so does not rube paint off.
In my city they steal tail gates every week.

The $49 locks are a waste compared to a $3 hose clamp. Parking lot and cruising rats want ez and quick.
